  • Gene roasters smoke control

Ive searched for the answers prior to this post, so forgive me if theyve been asked before.  The Genes drum appears to be fully enclosed with no ventilation to be seen.  Is it safe to say that the created smoke is fully encapsulated inside the drum until opened, and how does is it separate the chaff?

The other question is where is the heating element on the Gene; is it at the base of the unit or is it the perforated separator inside the drum?

I may consider purchasing one of these units from one of your local sponsors.  Out of the domestic units available it appears that the Gene sits at the top end IMO.

    Thanks

No mocca, smoke is vented through the chaff collector (LHS of machine)

    No again

Its contained within the heater assembly in the RHS upright of the roaster.

    Cheers

      Hi Moccacino,

Have you seen the Gene in action?

      http://www.avacuppa.com.au/

Have a visit to avacuppas site. Plenty of info on the Gene and have a read at Eddie Doves review. That will probably answer most of your questions.

Good luck with the roasting journey. The Gene is easy to use and love the adjustability of it.

I appreciate the replies.  Theres so many variables when it comes to roasting coffee that the whole experience is equally about the journey and not just the destination.  Thanks for the http://www.avacuppa.com.au/ link, and, thanks to the site, I now know that it heats via forced convection air rather than direct radiant heat.  The flow through hot air also collects and carries the chaff through to the collector - very clever!

        Thanks
