  • Cleaning Turbo oven

    Hello all

Nearly a year of roasting in my turbo oven, (http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1265700152 ) and the outer pot is getting a good layer of dark brown/black sediment at the level where air off the beans would hit. Inner pot has a little brown coating, but I doubt that it would be likely to have any effect on flavour.

Should I make any attempt to clean the outer pot, or does it just add to the "patina" of roasting? Theres no "nasty" residual smell to it when I start a new roast.

    Thanks for your thoughts

Its easy to clean your Turbo Oven

    Two procedures

1] Blow in the holes of the electronic part of the TO body to remove any fine husks (you blow in one side the dust will exit on the opposite side)

2] Warning "Do not immerse in water"
Use a S/Steel scrub bud (these do not scratch) with a back-flush solution or similar

Hold the Turbo Oven upside down at an angle
Scrub and rinse small portions with the solution of the glass area only
Always hold the TO at an angle for the rinsing water to cascade off

Dry to a gleaming clear finish with a dry cloth

Should I make any attempt to clean the outer pot, or does it just add to the "patina" of roasting?  Theres no "nasty" residual smell to it when I start a new roast.

Its not necessary and it is a personal preference

Not sure if you have Hi Temp silicone tubing on the rim as this stops heat from escaping & stops smoke stains as well

I use a green scourer which has the sponge backing and it seems to work.
OH and i also add a bit of elbow grease ;D

To clean the glass... A strong backflush mix and some elbo grease... Nothing that might scratch the glass...

No, I wasnt worried about the turbo oven itself, there is very little accumulated there. Doesnt even seem to collect much chaff. I have wiped the glass over with a damp cloth from time to time, just to ensure being able to watch the roast.

Just the rather dense ring of black around the outer pot - at the level where the beans run, obviously venting through the inner pot quite well. Im sure it wouldnt be too hard to clean, but I wondered whether it may add some subtle flavours/aromas to the roast. Probably more imagined than real, anyway.

          Thanks for the comments

I do a dry run every 2 months no beans this burns of any old coffee oils and gets rid of those residual smells

            Cheers Gra..
