I havent modded the popper in any way, what is the best way to drop the temp on the popper to slow down the roasting times?
Firstly make sure more cool air can get in. The usual entry point is underneath.
Remove the bottom cover and enlarge the holes in the bottom.

Secondly, let more hot air out by drilling / cutting large holes in the upper body. This is best done by taking the top off so you can see what youre doing to avoid drilling holes in something you shouldnt.

thanks java, unless I am blind it doesnt mention anything about modding the popper?
I think you may need to get your eyes checked mate.... :P

I just had a quick scan through the above thread to refresh my memory on its contents and there are loads of posts with very useful popper mods, from the very simple to the outright FrankenPopper category.

You can always use the Search Tool if youre chasing more specific info though....

ive tried several roasts, had massive fans pointing at the popper, done them at 6 in the morning yet it is always too hot. First crack happens at about 3 minutes, second just after 4 and an oil slick at about 4:30

I havent modded the popper in any way, what is the best way to drop the temp on the popper to slow down the roasting times?

the Behmor would be even better with the added benefit of actually being rated for AU power supply.
And capacity of more than 120g. :P

Well...99% of poppers dont have a way to capture chaff
That would be the tarted up section.

I still think youd be better off with a $12 popper with the popperdom sock mod for catching chaff. I cannot find the post at present (it was very old) but it was some sort of light mesh that slipped over the popper once the roast commenced and allowed air to pass through whilst catching the chaff. Was about $5 from memory.

Of course, the Behmor would be even better with the added benefit of actually being rated for AU power supply.

What do you guys think of the "Fresh Roast Coffee Roaster SR 500" its only 169 on Amazon... and seems to have good reviews too...
Its a tarted up popper for 10 times the price.
Well... :P 99% of poppers dont have a way to capture chaff (the west bend poppery II does though) also this has alot of nice features such as temp, fan control etc. But yea... Might go for the Behmor when the next paycheck rolls on in

Firstly, its 110V 60Hz, so youll have to convert it, and seeing as it will be running at (most likely) around 2kW, finding a 110V to 230V 2kW converter transformer will not be fun. Secondly, you may have issues with the 60Hz vs 50Hz if there are any motors in it.

Thirdly, if it does work, then you have no warranty, which is risky on something so small that heats up to 250 degrees.

Fourthly, Amazon wont ship it to Australia.

So even if it is the best coffee roaster in the world, I wouldnt think about getting it.
Well... strangely enough o.o amazon has started shipping some items to Australia... Recently i bought a Kershaw Skyline knife from them for camping use at an absolute _bargain_ (AUD29+9). But yea i agree with you, :/\/ getting that converter would be a pain and considering what price that converters go for here... XD May as well get the behmor
