Hottop Cooling for re-use

Bought a $15 ONIX Personal Mini fan (std 240v), from a C supermarket to try help reduce the cooling time of my Hottop up here in Brissie. Nice and light, perfect size, sits nicely on the partially open Chaff Tray with the Roaster front off, and blows directly into the chamber. Removed back filter and Bean Chute cover as well. Cut my cooling time by half I reckon. I usually wait until its in the low 30s (Thermocouple probe) before setting up for the next batch, as have had problems in the past if I do not let it cool sufficiently.

I did place a small flat Slicone Pot Holder underneath in case the tray was still too hot, but not sure it needs it.

Could also be used to assist cool the beans, although not normally a problem with the Hottop.

Sorry if something similar has already been mentioned before, did a brief search but could not find a similiar reference.

what i do with my hottop between roasts as you mentioned is remove shute and rear filter but also carefully remove viewing window with a tee towel as not to get burnt and start up machine in a roasting mode so internal fans run in cooling mode. Found this works a treat cut cooling time down from about 30 minutes to at least half that, Just a little tricky replacing window when hot so be carefull if you try but have done it maybe a 100 roasts or so now without a prob. My hottop b is now dead though after 160 roasts it will not power up techs are working on it cant wait to get it back, Anyways Happy Roasting. 8-)

The "viewing window" is what I meant by the "Roaster front", which I remove immediately after the roast to allow cooling ASAP. That allows the fan to blow into the chamber. However I have read of others using the cooling mode as you have mentioned.

Sorry to hear yours died after only 160 roasts. Did you get it new? Ive done about 350 roasts in about 18 months, and still going strong.

yes have had it since new still waiting to be repaired doesnt seem to be anyone in bris that has had much experience repairing hottops and now to top it off my isomac has stopped working think its a relief valve on top of boiler unlucky, Back to buying roasted beans and cleaned cob webs off the sunbeam just not the same.

Hey Stevo, sorry to hear about that problem... um, what techs are working on this? Did you contact your retailer about it?? Not sure if you bought it direct through us or through a retailer but this is the first Ive heard of a dead machine in Brisbane.
