Is that introductory offer of the bean cooler with the roaster is still on? What is the warranty on it?

Re: New Korean Home Roaster soon avialable in Australia- I-Coffee-
Hi Mal,
No, not coming from a commercial background just keen home roaster with only a couple of years roasting experience....have done a couple of courses with Willem Boot in the USA and simply would like to extract the best flavour from some of Andys delightful offerings on beanbay.
Your suggestion of matching roasts will hopefully be taken up by those who have tasted roasts from both roasters.....thank you again.
Hi Jack,
Not really more experienced than you, on the contrary. I do keep records of profiles, cup and try to adjust subsequent roasts to eliminate ordinary results,
and I have had my share of ordinary results....and likewise when roasted correctly to suit the bean type, have achived some magical results.
I will never get into the citrus, blueberry, cinamon, with a hint of mushroom etc.etc. etc. way of evaluating coffee....just chasing the wow factor that some of the single origins can deliver.....similar to that was a really nice wine, where can I get it?
Incidently, I mostly use aeropress copying similar recipes to those offered on the aeropress world championship site. The flavours really come to the fore with this little gem. I only fire up the machine for visitors.
I will touch base in a day or two and have a chat.
Hope your zassenhaus grinder continues to deliver nice results.
Thank you.
JL

Re: New Korean Home Roaster soon avialable in Australia- I-Coffee-
Hello Juliet,
clearly you are a far more experienced and nuanced roaster than me :-?: I am more of a freestyler 8-)... I dont keep records, I dont (want to) understand profiles, I dont have a temperature probe and I blend by geography rather than flavor.
Dont get me wrong: I know there is more to coffee- and I really respect those that take the time and care to take it to the next level- I just dont have the time and too many other obsessions...
When I drink coffee I look for what I hate rather than what I like. Can I taste stale beans, burnt milk, burnt espresso, dirty machine flavor, etc? If none of these are present I am starting to think it is a decent coffee... If I taste chocolate I think it is excellent. I am not good at distinguishing the really finer points of flavor. I am the same with wine. However with both I do know what I like (if not why)- and I do buy from experienced roasters and taste coffee all over the place to keep an eye on the standard I am looking for. To my simplistic palate I think my coffee competes (at times) with the best available out there in terms of my own satisfaction. For me the I-Coffee- (and the Behmor) roast to a standard I am happy with. However for your needs I am not so sure as the design is limited in the manual control-ability department. There are tricks you could pioneer, and variables that can be played with but the machine really excels in the simplicity department as opposed to the artisan roaster features.
Given that you have several other roasters- this unit could be good for you for your straight out standard roasts- and you can coax the best out of those tricky beans in one of your more tweak-able machines...
You can see results that are typical of this machine in this thread from many users- many times out of the box. This is its strength. It does roast a bean very nice and even- it is auto- but they set a nice standard profile.
send me a PM if you want to give me a call about the roaster.

Apologise JL....
Didnt realise you were coming from a commercial roaster background, hence the somewhat basic response.

Re: New Korean Home Roaster soon avialable in Australia- I-Coffee-
Thanks Mal,Hi Jack,
I do have a couple of roasters, one with good temperature control and one a little less precise. I am looking for another without going overboard on something like a San Franciscan 1kg or something similar.
Yemen and ethiopian greens need very different temperatures leading up to first crack than do softer beans in order to maximise their delightful flavours.
I presume some roasting machines have the capacity to deliver a nicer taste than others (as distinct from simply looking nice) thus my enquiry about this little roaster... and the end results of its roasts mainly in taste terms.(not in terms of finer cupping protocols)
Jack, I presume you mean by reducing the load, more heat is available to harder beans in a given time frame? ....separate and apart from the roast development period between 1st and 2nd.
I usually charge/load yemens and ethiopian beans at a much higher starting temp. than say something like hawaii kona.....essential to maximixe the uniquness of their qualities.
Jack did your visits to your master roaster friends result in them tasting the roasts?
Perhaps I should call you as I am really interested , not just tyre kicking.
Thank you for your responses.

Re: New Korean Home Roaster soon avialable in Australia- I-Coffee-
Hello there Juliet,
so far I have not encountered a bean that the I-Coffee couldnt roast- though I have noted that beans that are very hard/dry work better at less than 220 grams. In practice this only relates to less than 10% of bean varieties- I have roasted well over 30 different varieties over the years with continuing success. I can only compare to the Behmor- and to commercial roasters- in both cases I cant identify any major differences- but I am no expert roaster/cupper. I just know what I like and I like almost all of my roasts.

Re: New Korean Home Roaster soon avialable in Australia- I-Coffee-
Gday JL....
Even though I dont own or use an I-Coffee Roaster, from all the roasts Ive seen completed by the various owners in this thread, Id reckon it would come closest to the KKTO in terms of function, so perhaps theres a KKTO owner or three out there who also own the I-Coffee, who may be able to comment.
In the end though, it doesnt really matter. So long as the I-Coffee is capable of doing the beans justice (and that certainly seems definite), it really comes down to a matter of nuances in the flavour profile, more than anything else. Given the quite high levels of roast profile customisation that is possible, you should be able to tweak a beans flavour profile to suit your tastes, with a minimum of effort.
Its like all forms of home-roasting.... Youve got to experiment, keep good records of batch profile milestones and cupping notes, for future reference - For all roast batches, the good the bad and the ugly...
:P
Most important of all though, is to have fun while youre doing it. Ive been home roasting now for nearly a decade and I still look forward to each and every roast session (and then enjoying the fruits of my labours afterwards). 8-) ;D
Mal.
