Re: New Korean Home Roaster soon avialable in Australia- I-Coffee-

Jack, great to see your comprehensive comparison between the behmor and the I-Coffee. There is a lot to like about this chunky roaster.

Have you found that roasts from I-Coffee are ready to drink earlier than from Behmor?

What about the power use of both? and noise?

Sorry if I confused you, the video I mentioned was not yours it had a Korean website address displayed, roasting at I-Coffees darkest setting, and was  slightly different, earlier version maybe.

    cheers,
    lu

      Good review SorrentinaCoffee ......

Pleasant change to see balanced feedback that highlights both strengths and weaknesses of the product without the need to overstate or bag other products.

Personally I would have loved to be able to get a 250g roast but I will still watch to see how it goes.

        Sir Stinkalot:

I will try out a test batch of 250 grams just for you. From memory I did try it two years ago when I first got the roaster. I cant remember what happened but only ever roasted 150 afterwards so think I may have had a problem...

but I will try again just to be sure...

Lu: my feeling that the I-Coffee is ready to drink a little earlier is a kind of casual observation. I have not done a good test- side by side. But I will try and do just that: roast batches to the same level in the two machines and then do a few side by side espresso tests. As a roaster I tend to be lazy- not worrying about profiles or recording my observations: my main concern is getting some good beans in the jar for the week ahead... I am certainly a dilettante roaster- not fit to be called a true snob ;-(

Sounds great. The only reason for 250g is that is the average weekly supply for me. From the video it doesnt look all that difficult to do a couple of small batches but there is only so many minutes in the weekend unfortunately.

That being said however it takes 30-45 minutes each fortnight to drive over the the local site sponsor / roaster so perhaps there is enough free time

            This is too true ;-)

Well the Special Introductory pricing is determined.

            $374.95 without the Bean Cooler.

Personally I think it is a great for the quality you are getting:

            I-Coffee Roaster

PLUS: The first 5 Coffeesnobs who purchase a machine - will get the Bean Cooler accessory for FREE!

I look forward to a review of the roaster on this website.

Please bear in mind I made my initial order over 18 months ago (it was long delayed as we got electrical certification done)- since that time raw commodity prices have risen significantly- Korea has informed that the next shipment will be subject to a price rise so the retail will likely go up as well when the first shipment is sold out.

how big is that machine? if i want to order now, is it still include bean cooler for free?

            cheers

                hi
you have two options there. 1 is $374.95 only the roaster and $424.95 is Bean cooler package. isnt the bean cooler is free?

which options do i have to choose if i want to get that free bean cooler? is the price include the shipping cost to Perth?

                thanks
                Cheers

Re: New Korean Home Roaster soon avialable in Australia- I-Coffee-

With the Behmor and the Baby Roaster you can adjust heat etc to prolong the time between first and second crack.  From my understanding this is a very important part of the roast. How would you do the same with this?

Can you also confirm that the dial on the front is just a timer rather than a "profiler" or temp control?

Oh yeah, did you get a chance to do a 250gram roast? Looking at the video it might struggle to stir that much properly :-?

Re: New Korean Home Roaster soon avialable in Australia- I-Coffee-

Cheers: assuming you are in Australia (your profile doesnt say) you can still get the special package. Just go into the store and order the roaster without the bean cooler. Then send me an email with your CoffeeSnobs name and I will include he bean cooler in the package.

Trentski: the dial at the front only controls the length of the roast cycle. However I have found that on this machine second crack generally only starts between two minutes and 4 minutes after first crack started. From my experience this is a good gap between the two.

I havent done a 250 Gram test yet. I will do one this afternoon.

                        Hello there Japert,

yes- there is one left. Be quick! Just order the standard machine and I will add the cooler.

                        Sir Stinkalot:

I did the 250 gram roast test today. Actually it worked fine!! I used the preheat function- and set the timer to the maximum level. The roast had just finished first crack and the cool cycle was about to begin- so I pressed the power button twice (this resets the timer) and added a few minutes to the roast. I pulled it at the start of second crack (which began about 4 minutes after first crack started).

250 grams of Green Son La Vietnam Arabica gave me 203 grams of nice evenly roasted beans!

A Caveat: when you reset the roast timer you must keep a constant eye on the roast and start the cool cycle or pull the beans for a manual cooling when they are ready. Otherwise the roast would go for another 10 minutes and certainly burn.

I think 250 would be the limit for this roaster- as the beans roast they expand and at 250 they half filled the roast pot and covered the entire agitator. Despite this the beans kept moving and roasted evenly. Virtually no smoke at all until I pulled the roast for manual cooling.

The Son La beans are a bit unevenly graded- but even so I think this roast looks very nice- quite even- no chipping. No oil spotting at all yet but a nice darkish colour. Will test them in a few days. What do you think:

Thanks SorrentiaCoffee .... that certainly makes it an interesting toss up with the Behmor. I havent done too much research yet but I will be sure to keep this one on this list.

So when do you want me to pop around and pick up those beans? ;D

                              Roast looks great.

The added capacity is sure to make this roaster a more attractive option.

I have now sold all five of the free bean cooler packages (thanks to all who have become my early adopters ;-) the first shipments should be arriving today and tomorrow, so I hope to see some user reviews soon. Let me know how you are going folks)....

I have decided to accept a few more orders before the introduction offer is closed. If you are on the fence this could be just the push you need... remember: he who hesitates is lost- this Crazy offer simply cannot last.

Thanks Mal and Kaffee: I am happy with the look of these Son La beans. This is my first try of them and I am keen to see how they taste... three days rest sound right?

I admit to being pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to do 250 grams. I am now wondering why I have been religiously doing 150 grams for the last 2 years...
