Like Jaybee said, you could possibly go through the side but you would need to take the probe out before you trued to lift the pot out.

It would tell you what was going on but you couldnt do anything with the information as you cant adjust temperature.

yeah, the lack of being able to change the temp is one thing that attracted me to this over the behmore. i decided i wanted a roaster that i could have as few variables as possible to manage. watch, listen, cool... ill experiment with the popper and maybe build a corretto one day. till i found this site i had no idea that making coffee was so much fun 8-)

considering that Apple have never been known to offer goods in the coffee industry I would say any attempt to sue over infringement of any i trademark would be likely to fail.
Possibly, but its never stopped McDonalds from trying and sometimes winning.

..and there is an iPhone app called iCoffee. Its third party and I dont think the owners are going to be too worried. Users wont be looking for a coffee related app and find themselves buying a coffee roaster instead.

I know its an old thread but after owning one of these for a few months now I thought I should post a follow up.

Not much to say really, it just works 8-)

I measure the beans out (250 grams of greens are my mainstay) and chuck them in. Turn the dial all the way to the right and press start, after about ten minutes I double press the start button to reset the time. I wait for first crack and then when that has finished wait a further 2-4 minutes for 2nd crack to start or be close to starting before I hold down the start button to end the roast.

Havent had a bad roast yet. Super easy and just what I was after 8-)

250 grams of greens cost me roughly $3-4 dollars depending on the beans and I get about 200grams of brown beans, so looking at a bean cost of less than $20 per kilo (compared to close to $40 for store bought browns), so at 20 roasts I have recovered the cost of the roaster, a few more roasts and I would have recovered the cost of the electricity and Im ahead from there on 8-)

I would be a happy chappy if my tax return would cover the cost of one!

great micro review Trentski- and glad the machine is working well for you. methodology is pretty much identical to my own. Focusing on the one variable: when to pull the roast.

Well my Mrs only drinks tea or hot chocolate when she goes for coffee with the girls because the coffee I am making is that much better that the pros. And I dont mean McD!

I have been stuffing around with various roasters for a decade, and this is the only machine that I would unreservedly recommend simply because it just pumps out great roasts without the drama, time after time...

Sounds an interesting machine. What is the price and availability like now.

What other convincing does she need?
You get to have fresh coffee all the time, you can give it away as gifts, you can try beans that are available roasted from a small number of retailers, you can create your own blends, you can roast for different types of coffee (press, syphon, espresso etc).

Its so much easier than I thought it would be

The main reasons I started roasting were:
No one convenient to me sells good roasted beans and I hate paying the postage on them.
                        Its cheaper than buying browns
I like the smell of roasting coffee
                        8-)

Probably worth mentioning that this roaster has an afterburner so although you go get to smell the roasting there isnt much smoke.

I roast in the kitchen and the smell dissipates very quickly.

Finally the coffee fund pot had enough in it, the minister of war and finance has authorised one. Ill be able to upgrade to one of these puppies from the popcorn popper of old (as soon as it arrives)!

                            Great excite!

I roast outside and would get murdered if I tried to roast in the kitchen, even outside the cook complains about the smell. :

Its quite amazing how the afterburner removes all the smoke- but all the smells of the coffee get through. The smell is quite powerful but not unpleasant. I roast in the kitchen but take the beans straight outside for cooling.

thanks for your order Mallie- your roaster heads into the postal system tomorrow for a thursday/friday delivery. Bonus green beans included- I will throw in a little Balinese washed Robusta for your stronger caffeine blends...
