    Re: Another Happy KKTO Owner

    For me;

    (a) another $10 fire blanket has already made a big difference.

    (b) I find the data logger a big help and it should be more so as I refine the 1C to 2C end of the process.

    (c) I now think I can do bigger batches easily but will stick to 650g for now until I have that fully sorted

Oh, and although I am still a newcomer to KKTO, I dont think either preheating or using the defrost idea makes a noticeable difference to the actual roast time. Any way you do it the roast phase doesnt start until the beans are well over 50-60 anyway, so for now I am back to option one (full power from cold). From what I have seen doing back to back roasts, the hotter the TO is the sooner it starts thermostat cycling ... which is what you are trying to avoid ...

I am a KKTO roaster plus sparky.Through approx 30 roasts 600-1000kg batches with data logger I cannot see reason to mod heater. All batches roast to perfection using the thermostat .I dump between 226-230 deg depending on bean and this is after or into 2nd crack. We enjoy heavy espressos

          bcspark,

What times are you achieving on your KKTO?
And what brand of turbo oven are you using?
          Cheers.

                Re: Another Happy KKTO Owner

Im a bit confused bcspark (not an unusual state of affairs!)

You say you have a "KKTO roaster plus sparky" but then say you dont feel the need to mod the heater - so you havent bypassed the thermostat?

If not, what did the sparky do?

                      Thanks bcspark.

For my Cookwell halogen oven, Im achieving 20minutes on a 500gm load, 25 minutes on a 600gm load for espresso level roasts. I wont go heavier than 600gm as i feel this is the upper limit, for my system as it is.

Got some microlot beans recently that will give best results at between C8-C9, so that should bring the times down

Would be great to see pics of your kit bcspark.

XP had a Power Toy called Image re-sizer
I believe that it was recently made available for Win 7

If not there are several easy image resister programs available

Also something most people dont know is
If one views a full photo or any full size item in MS Paint
                            Press Ctrl & W
It will open a window with vertical & horizontal values to alter the size

Important - I recommend that you save both the original & the re-sized images just in case

I normally go into the pictures folder, select the pic you want and then right click and then select "resize picture", then select 680 by 480 screen.

Select Browse in the reply box and select the downsized pic.

To add more attachments, click on the "Attachments +", as long as its 680 by 480, or smaller by using the advanced tab when youre resizing pictures.
