Hey out there well let me respond to the bean ejection first , the drum rotates on its shaft and the whole rotating drum tracks on the SS rods going into or out of the roast oven, one of the harder parts to work out was how I was going to fabricat the hinge door for the drum, after playing with a lot of diffrent ideas I decided to just make a removable flap so one 1/4 panel removes completely and ( it has 2 lip bolts on one side and 2 SS m4 bolts to lock it down on the other) so the idea is after the roast is done the drum tracks out of the oven ( still rotating ) I have a fan pushing cool air thrue the drum as it cools , when it's cool enough to touch about 1 min I stop the motor remove the cover plate put a catch tray under the drum then switch her on and the beans come spilling out pretty easy
as for my first roasts well I did 2x250g batches the first batch was from the drum Beeing cold got first crack at 16min and stopped the roast at 20min this one came out a bit light .
2nd roast was with a hot drum first crack at 13min and stopped roast at 18min she just started second crack roast was a touch dark .
All in all she performed very well there are a couple of things I'll be looking at improving 1st the drum being a big mass of brass holds a lot of heat so I think I'll be putting some insulating cloth around the control unit and cables in the back and I will be looking at making the view portal an opening unit as it got pretty fogged up and made it hard to time the cook. And adding a thermocouple to get a better idea of the internal temp . I have some shots of my first attempts but I can't for the life of me up load the shots from my phone if your keen you can check them out on my face book page

[QUOTE=EspressoAdventurer;488009]So Primate ..... is that Bike Frames as in - Motorcycle ? or Bicycle Frames?
          Fine work just the same.
Proves the point - ART is not just an ...expression of emotion ...that hangs on walls!

Sounds like you're having fun with all of this which is good.

Some good test roasts under way and your appetite is whetted for some tweaking. They say a picture paints a thousand words. Have you taken any more ? ;-)

Well I got to try the beans I roasted on the weekend this morn.
The light batch was very bright and sharp on the Palet (I was about to bin it but my better half proclaimed she liked it ?)
next I pulled a shot of the darker roast and this one was a lot better a nice Rich chocolate flavor with what my Bette half described as over tones of ginger and nuts looking foward to playing some more soon .

                I am in awe!

                Great job.

With the peaberry, my roaster has 4mm perforated stainless holes and seems to hold them in fine.
one or two wedge themselves in the holes, but no big deal.

Just wondering how the roasting is going? This is such a thing of beauty...

That's incredible! From the title I was imagining something like a bodgy drum over a BBQ, or similar (imagining it on my capabilities basically - which would be a bodgy drum over a BBQ). That is some serious craftmanship. Love to see craftmanship in this day and age.
