In the absence of compliance with an Australian standard I would be more than satisfied with compliance with an EU standard - EU standards are typically far ahead of Australian standards in most fields; in Australia it can take 20+ years for standards to catch up in some respects.

If you've seen some of the EU gas trains I have seen, I think you'd change your mind. I'll defer (in my instance) to Energy safe Victoria. You will find that your insurance company will do the same- regardless of how satisfied you were/are.Originally posted by ax72 View PostIn the absence of compliance with an Australian standard I would be more than satisfied with compliance with an EU standard - EU standards are typically far ahead of Australian standards in most fields; in Australia it can take 20+ years for standards to catch up in some respects.

I think people in Australia often confuse EU standards with what's adhered to in UK, Germany, Sweden, etc. Certainly in those countries standards will generally be high. But in the southern and Eastern States, adhering to EU standards is sometimes seen a little like the Melbourne team ticket lottery - skip your fare enough times and the saving will exceed the fine when you're eventually caught.Originally posted by Talk_Coffee View PostIf you've seen some of the EU gas trains I have seen, I think you'd change your mind. And no I'm not saying all eastern manufacturers are dodgy, just that attitudes to standards are very different there to here.
