I've been using mine for almost year now. Normally do 5 X 250g roasts back to back. Roast every 7-10 days, must be lucky that I'm still alive !
I have 2 probes for ET and BT and use roast logger with an arduino box.
The thing is built like a tank and has no proprietary parts so repairs would be easy if required. I purchased 2 spare elements with the original to save on postage.
I have never had a behmor so can't compare the two.
My 250g roasts take on average 15 minutes, and by the time I've dumped the beans into the cooler and emptied the chaff collector I'm ready to roll again. Changing ramp speeds / profiles etc is very simple.
To my knowledge I've never heard of anyone being harmed in any way by one, and if there has been an incident I'm all ears. In my limited time on this forum it seems to me that any non distributed (particularly by a site sponsor) item is by default dangerous and / or crap.
cheers

erm nope....Apart from being crazy and uninsurable, you have CO and other combustion byproduct to deal with.Originally posted by azeworai View PostIs operating a gas roaster in an apartment not a good idea?
Home roasting = outdoors or in your shed. Once you talk gas, you have a whole heap of other considerations to deal with.

Agree if it was $400-$500 it would be worth buying and have a sparky re-wire it but at $1k I would be going a Hottop or a Baby FZ RR with a motor which at $300 is well worth it for the control.

For your own safety and that of others, get it checked and then modified.
It's one of the most electrically dangerous appliances I have ever seen. To comply in Australia, it's back to the drawing board with the electrics. FWIW, I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole.

Thanks for that index it's really good!
When you say modified for safety, any suggestions on where and how much you think it'll cost?
I'll have a look through the index soon!

The Quest is a roaster that has good reviews on HB. You have to self import. It will cost you over $1k.I have always been wary of the electrical wiring on this unit, and would recommend it be modified for safety, prior to use, by someone who knows what they are doing.
Batches are small.
There are many other options out there. Huky, KKTO etc.
Search for "Small Commercial/Large Home Roaster Index" on the HB website and you will see a comprehensive list of roasters.
Work out the size of roaster you want, your budget, and go from there.

Quest m3 roaster
Hi all,
I'm thinking of getting this roaster as an upgrade from the Behmor.
Does anyone in CS have this roaster and do you think its worth the upgrade?
Is it hard to setup with a thermocouple+ artisan roast software?
I basically want more control and want to be able to do continuous roasts.
Doing a few batches on the behmor takes a long time having to go through the cooling cycle.
Cheers,
