Classic. We'll see indeed So unless they're in the middle of that 2017 run - factoring in Chinese New Year, production starts up again on 5th Feb, assume 3-4 weeks for production run and testing, and 3 weeks shipping out of Taiwan to Sydney.. then ECA bench testing for a week or two.. mid April is my guess!

However their website does say 6 weeks lead time, in which case we might all be pleasantly surprised with a first of autumn arrival. Not holding my breath.

    • Confirmed via FB message with Aillio that "We are in production mode right now and it will continue through CNY and beyond". But that's all I could get, went silent after that (Understandably)

Oh, and they also said it's a good time to order as "it's likely we should have some stock left after CNY" - which means that they're possibly expecting to deplete stock before CNY...

      • any updates on shipping??
        also a couple of q's,
-what do you guys use for the seasoning roasts (throwaway bean?)
        - what extraction system are you using? I'm a tad confused on what i will need, is it just one of these:

        coupled with something like this:

        hanging out the window?

        • Last I heard they were shipping (from Taiwan) mid Feb to early March. They'll be landed and bench tested before they reach retailers and are onshipped to us. Another month _at_least_ yet. Alas.

I've got some beans waiting for use as seasoning. They're not garbage beans but I obviously won't be drinking them. However I intend to use the seasoning to learn as much about the roaster behaviour.

          • thanks for the update readeral. Where abouts do you get seasoning beans from? I'm looking at getting some decent beans as well as some for seasoning

            • Oh they were some beans that I bought from BeanBay that I don't really like, so not bought with the purpose of seasoning in mind. But just buy a cheaper bean from Beanbay or put up a WTB advert (after you've made 5 posts) and see if someone will on-sell you 2.5kg of beans they don't like much. I'm sure there'll be someone.

For seasoning roasts I sacrificed a couple of kg of beans from a 60kg bag of greens as I couldnt get 'cheap sacrificial' beans from any roasters I approached. No dramas really.

For ventilation/exhausting roast smoke, I took inspiration from what Aillio were using at MICE last year, albeit on a much more budget friendly level. I use an active system, an inline exhaust fan connected to some aluminium ducting - IXL 170mm Ventair Exhaust Fan available from Bunnings. NOTE: this is NOT attached to the exhaust of the Bullet and just sits about 4 inches above the exhaust and gently sucks away any smoke. Very effective. I went for the semi rigid ducting instead of the flexi ducting.

I would not recommend attaching anything directly to the exhaust especially if you have an active system (fan) as it will affect the heat and airflow of the roaster.

If you are inclined to attach a duct directly to the roasters exhaust make sure it has no fan sucking the smoke and keep the duct short. My thoughts are that long passive ducts might affect the roasters ability to effectively exhaust smoke. Best to speak to Aillio about this.

                Happy roasting (when it arrives)
                Javabeen.

                  • Latest is "the very earliest would be March". It is what it is. I guess the coffeeparts listed "mid 2017" is as reasonable an estimate as we can expect. Just sucks for y'all who've been without the cash for some time now.

                    • I don't think you will see them in March and agree with Pedro's estimates on when they may be available to purchase in Australia.

Mine was one which arrived inoperative and was then really noisy and unusable with door issues etc. A replacement drum and a little tweaking has delivered a terrific little roaster and you would need to buy full commercial to chase better performance.

The concept to delivery time has been prolonged, but it's a good thing. I consider we early adopters to be beta testers as such. The lads have been provided with plenty of in the wild field data and will help deliver a superior product to those who have waited for full production units.

                      Cheers

                        Hey Chris

Speaking of the noise, are you able to hear first and second crack over it? Also, have you had to clean the IR window (infra-red I presume)?

A: Sure can (and my hearing is crap- too many gigs when I was younger)
B: Not yet- though it will sorta happen when we finally receive the tryer kit

I agree. Would prefer a refined finished product than needing to seek support too often, so it's good that they're getting things right.
