I make that $4k before shipping and then add duty and GST. Gets me closer to $5k landed and then warranty, support and parts are still overseas. These cost.
Given that the importer is yet to publish any pricing, I would suggest that retailers might just be speculating somewhat on price. Difference is that the local importer is not a retailer and that local warranty and Australian Consumer law needs to be provided for.
We'll all know when pricing is published, but I'm struggling to buy a 1kg electric roaster which is actually legal to use much under $10k.

Ah, here we go. Now I remember why I don't frequent these forums anymore, such a welcoming place.
I wasn't comparing it to other roasters, the Bullet stands on its own. Outside of prototypes, the Jake doesn't really exist yet, and the CRA is in a completely different league. But hey since we're quoting Euros for the issue prone Gene, I will compare it to the Bullet US price of $2,800. Which, roughly after AU conversion and GST, is $4,300. I expect our wonderful importers to gouge us a little on price, not nearly $2k though.
But, by all means, continue defending high costs on Australian nanny state compliance and regulation bs.

Absurd hey?
Ok... List of 10A 1kg profiling roasters- preferably with Australian compliance on a small footprint which have any similarities with drum roasters... Preferably something you can pop under an arm or thereabouts...I'll start you off:
Gene Cafe CBR1200 €5,250.00 ex Austria.
1.5kg CRA Tech $9.5k (doesn't "pop" under any arm)
Behmor Jake: Price TBA (also doesn't pop under an arm)
Ball in your court.Last edited by Caffeinator; 7 October 2020, 11:20 PM.

Yep. And, with the absurd RRP currently estimated to be around $6k, I'm not sure how many prospective buyers there'll be...Originally posted by flynnaus View Post
I think I can speak for a majority of prospective Bullet buyers to say we'll believe it when we see it on the shelf here.

From the latest Aillio newsletter:
The big news at Aillio last week was certification. As of last Wednesday afternoon, we have passed all the tests required for CB/CE certification of the V2-220V (200V-240V) model. For some of you, this doesn’t mean anything. But for those of you in markets requiring certification, it means you’ll be able to purchase a Bullet for the first time. It’s a big deal.
We’ve written numerous times about the process of certification – the obsessive attention to detail and maddening opacity of it. Needless to say we’re ecstatic about putting it all behind us. But it will still be some time before you’ll see Bullets peppering the coffee scene in Melbourne, Tokyo, and Seoul. There remains a significant amount of paperwork and PCB manufacturing/assembly to do before we can begin ramping up production of these newly certified Bullets.
Still, we hope Santa will be able leave something special under your tree this year. Hope you haven't been too naughty...

Yes Mingus, it is gas powered , like a bbq.Originally posted by Mingus View Post
Hey Brett,
I assume this is gas powered?
Where did you get it from and what sort of cost?
I've seen some on AliExpress but not too confident. I think the best value are from Taiwan.
I found mine on ebay, but it doesnt seem to be listed any longer.
a general search on google there is a 3kg electric roaster in Vic for 8k. i paid 5k 4 years ago for 1kg so this looks a decent option.
if the ailio costs say 4k i reckon this would still be a better bet, the induction electronics has got to be complicated!
Further to my post in April, if Aillio were in anyway fair dinkum, they would have responded to my post and given a decent update.

Hey Brett,Originally posted by brettreaby View PostTo anyone considering the Bullet I would say this. They have been faffing about for years. And on past promises and performance....
When i looked at a roaster in 2016 I thought the Bullet would be awesome.
However, I decided to go with a conventional gas roaster and imported a 1kg unit which has been simply amazing and i have done maybe 400 roasts since. And no maintenance issues either . If I had waited on Bullet i would still be messing with my Behmor which is a toy compared to a proper roaster.
So if you are keen to get to the next level - just do it!

Just a stupid question. It seems the wait is indefinite..
Can I possibly buy a Bullet from another country and then ship it to Australia using something like Fedex??

I think this is more to do with different countries regulations or certification standards for Home Appliances, or a personal willingness to use an uncertified home appliance. Europe, Japan, New Zealand and Australia (and quite possibly many other countries) are all much much stricter with certification than somewhere like the USA. There are bucket loads of these roasters in the US and Canada, but only a small number of private imports in the EU, Australia and a few other countries. The Bullet is being certified against Home Appliance standards, not Power Tool standards, and my understanding is that Home Appliance standards are much tighter than that for Power Tools. Aillio have made a comment in previous newsletters that if they were to use the Power Tool certification standard, it would more than likely already be on the shelves here. But they see it as a Home Appliance and are in the process of getting that certification.Originally posted by Caffeinator View PostI'd agree. Electrical compliance for the Bullet has been a major issue whilst it appears not to have been an issue elsewhere in the world. Australia and NZ lag. Maybe this is because ECA insist on selling compliant product. Perhaps other importers elsewhere neither know nor care.
In the mean time, the early adopters and the current users in North America have, in a way, acted as a large group of product testers for the item that will eventually land here in Australia. There have been significant improvements on the original model and continuous improvement in the accompanying software.
I've been waiting for four years now and will continue to wait longer, as I have a fully paid pre-order on one (with a guarantee that I will not pay extra if the retail cost is more than what I paid!) and this particular unit will suit my needs. I can't afford to have a gas roaster of a similar capacity due to my job moving me every 2-3 years. Having a product that I can plug into any wall socket in and around the house, and is highly transportable, is what I need. In the mean time I will keep on roasting on the old Hottop and enjoy my coffee.

The problem with import of a 1kg gas roaster is that it wont have AGA approval and unless you want to be potentially uninsured should the shed/garage/house catch fire when you use it, you need to get that done. Add the cost of those works and proper, professional Type B installation and they will eat up the cost of a Bullet alone after you purchase and then land your import.
I have seen gas bottles connected to roasters in rumpus rooms (and worse) with very little thought to ventilation, CO or safety. It all depends on how dodgy you're prepared to risk it with. No doubt that "things are fine!", until the day that they're not and your home is ash and/or you're resident in a box.

Stuck in certification hell I believe. And I'm guessing that the process would have fallen victim to the current pandemic issues as well. But apparently good progress has been made. Wait and see I guess.
