You could always try to make something similar......

although this guy did end up buying a Gene Cafe in the end.

    Which is tempting :

I was overestimating the cost of the coretto...have done the math... 0.747% :P :

          OUCH!!
          EEK!!!!!!!! [smiley=shocked.gif]

That does make the Gene Cafe look like a very econimical roaster for the home.

Maybe Ill have a job next month and can afford one.. :-[

Yeah, I think if I ever get the urge to go tailor made the Gene Cafe would be the one Id choose. I know the HotTop is a capable unit but I just like the idea of the pseudo fluid-bed design of the GC and the very even roasts it produces..... Very similar to the Corretto ;D

Thats not such a surprise given the fluidized bed shop roaster price I mentioned above. Quite reasonable really. I cant buy one right now though as Im saving for a Bugatti Veyron.

hmmm...even me, a dreamer, cant see how its reasonable to spend so much on a roaster that produces the quantities this one does. Think its a beauty but.....!

8 euro for a coffee....WTF? Thats like $13 aussie. Paying $13 for a cuppa joe would definitely make it a cuisine beverage.

Im all for paying $4...$5 for a cup of coffee in Australia to help get the quality of coffee up there where it should be, so that farmers do not need to rely on things such as fair trade to be able to turn their wooden fermentation tanks in to ceramic lined ones, getting rid of their nasty ass pulper and replace it with a more modern one....so that they can invest more in the processing of the greens we will eventually consume. Better processing methods = better coffee at the end of the day. Many coffees are destroyed before they even reach our shores and roasters.

The price of coffee in Australia is just too cheap IMHO.

Theres nothing wrong with your ideals Wushoes, though it reminds me of the argument the oil companies make in regard to reinvestment for exploration and alternative fuel sources. Sure, some of that happens, but most of it is taken up by greed - do you really think if we pay $5 for a coffee that somehow the farmers will be the ones who are better off?

With a little web searching I found a mention of 2700 euro for
TN-1. They do look nice but ...
Sorry, but for this price I will buy a dozen, unfortunately the TN-1 cost more.
Yes this roaster is handcrafted, this is a 5 stars roaster simple the best but I know its not affordable for a home roaster.

I will go mid April in Spain to visit the DisCaf factory

Guys if you want to see the DisCaf roaster please come on holiday to the the Gold Coast, its super here and I will show you the BEST!

The only way farmers will benefit is if roasters/importers work directly with farms to establish relationships and train the farmers in more advanced processing techniques only afforded by my advanced machinery and skilled workers.

Get rid of this middle man crap and you will most likely see a marked improvement in some coffees. Good coffees will become great coffees....attention to detail. Picking out fermented beans, make sure coffee pickers do not pick unrippened and insect diseased cherries, fertilising more in certain times, pruning the plants more etc
I know these are "ideals" and it wont work in every single farm....but it will work in some if you try. Of course that then gives the roaster/importer supporting that farm virtually a monopoly over the coffee produced.
