"I wouldnt assume there is some other brand roaster "just around the corner""
It will be interesting to see how things go with the one I mentioned earlier
in this thread. 400g+, usable inside, a lot of work in development etc etc

Re: Gene cafe supply update- bad news...
Chris,
Heres hoping your email will do some good..... but they probably have signed on the dotted with their new sole agent... and that will remain until the whole deal goes pear shaped.....
Mj,
I dont think there are that many "value for money" quality roasters in the world - after all the demand isnt that great. It costs a lot to engineer a new unit and when that cost is spread over a (relatively) small number of units they can become prohibitively expensive...
I wouldnt assume there is some other brand roaster "just around the corner"- and even if there is..... will it be another Sunbeam 6900? At least this one has a track record of working reliably.

Re: Gene cafe supply update- bad news...
mj- as I understand, all dealers will have a demo roaster. Where are you located?
Having pulled one to bits, I believe that theyre extremely well manufactured and cant see that anything can fail or break. Andys Gene has done hundreds of batches.
I dont anticipate an issue with replacement parts in Australia and anyway, theyre readily available out of the UK and USA...

Yep... I think I remember having fun once... seems I never have the time nowOriginally posted by marcstolk link=1176529983/30#40 date=1176702339yeh, but thats half the fun mj :-)
Anyways... Id like to get a look at one of these in the flesh before deciding what to do.
Its been my experience that where there is a market for such things theyll always be another improved product round the corner so Im not inclined to panic buy... beside, if genesis stuff up their marketing and the gene looses momentum then support will definitely become an issue.

Re: Gene cafe supply update- bad news...
FYI all- copy of email sent to Genesis this morning...
Chris
Good Morning Jin and Frank,
I am writing to you about supplies of the Gene Cafe in Australia.
I am one of the dealers of the Gene Cafe appointed by Serge Siboni of GoBarista. I sell Gene cafe roasters in Victoria and have sold 18 units since the end of January- a period of less than three months.
I have been informed by Serge that GoBarista has been refused supply by Genesis and all stock will need to be purchased via a new sole distributor. I will not be purchasing from this distributor as I cannot support their business practices. I see no option but to remove the Gene Cafe from our range.
Australia have a smaller group of home roasters in a very active community and they are aware of the situation with supply of the Gene cafe. Many have indicated that GoBarista has their support.

Re: Gene cafe supply update- bad news...
Whats the bet they will say "you will need to contact out Australian agent / distributor ......... to arrange supply"...... which is generally what happens when an "exclusive" agreement has been entered into.Originally posted by Thundergod link=1176529983/45#45 date=1176735290I wonder if I should make an enquiry to suss them out and see what kind of response they give?
thats the problem with spares for R/C electric racing cars... one of the most popular worldwide manufacturers has an exclusive agreement with a firm in Australia... so they wont supply anyone else.... but that firm will only supply retailers a minimum amount.... and dont keep much in stock.... so the retailers have to have heaps on their shelves (which they cant afford to do) or wait until they have a minimum order, then the Australian agent waits until he has a minimum order.... result - no-one ever gets the spares!!!!

Re: Gene cafe supply update- bad news...
Ive just seen Genesis are still advertising sales of the Gene Cafe on a business site Im a member of.
They dont have any restrictions in the ad of course but do state a minimum order of only 50 units.
Delivery within 25 days.
I wonder if I should make an enquiry to suss them out and see what kind of response they give?

Yea its these guys. this information is in their online forum. they say they have them in stock but cannot sell them because without approval its illegal.Originally posted by telemaster link=1176529983/30#35 date=1176596234Is that stuff from one supplier that told me they couldnt supply till mid year because of complying with Australian safety standards?

Re: Gene cafe supply update- bad news...
Confirming that we have 2 units remaining. We will as promised supply the Gene with complimentary delivery to 2 lucky campers. 12 months parts and warranty are included.
I believe that if we stick together on this one, Serge will win out and we will have ongoing, secure supply of the Gene for CSers through his dealer network. I hear that the alternate distributor will be/has placed an initial order of 100 units from their agreed 1000 per year.
Given that CSers are the mostly likely demographic for sales, I hope they may be sitting on them for sometime yet and that we will ultimately obtain the results of their heartbreak when Genesis realises their error....

Re: Gene cafe supply update- bad news...
mj,
I must admit I prefer the DIY approach as well.... the building, setting up and adjusting to get the results you want are half the fun..... not to mention being able to do 600 gm batches...
But if you want a Gene Id be sending a PM straight away and making what ever arrangements are required to secure one..... might be quite some time before others become available..... and who would want to buy one from the distributor who stabbed Serge in the back!!
