    Hi there Al et al

This thread is a great read! Thanks Al for exposing all..... I have learnt so much, (and realise I have more questions to ask).

I want a KKTO to call my own and have started my shopping. Have bought a 1300w TO here and found an acrosteel pasta pot on eBay last week. It's being shipped here to me in Vietnam, so there's my KKTO version-selection taken care of. The KKTO seems an inexpensive, practical and 'robust' roasting solution. I will be roasting 'robust-a' beans here, :-) and looking to experiment with one bean type, perhaps grown in different parts of the county. My main concern (and interest) is meeting a local grower/s able to sell me reliable quality beans for my KKTO. I know for sure that the growers I buy from will receive better kg rates than they are screwed-down for by the big buyers here.

I am left with new insights re building my KKTO, they do tend to take on the characteristic of their owners.

    Cheers

    William

      Good luck William.

I built my one from descriptions given in Al's and Nico the Scorpio's threads. Nico also pointed me to KK's original plans, which made a huge difference, being able to see what is being described.

The hardest part for me was waiting for pieces of the puzzle to arrive from overseas, such as the DC motor. Once everything was here, I think it took me about 3 hours to construct everything, and another 2 hours to fabricate the agitator blades, to something usable for over 500g roasts.

I have a couple of minor cosmetic and drivetrain changes to make on my roaster, but all in all, it beats the snot out of my popcorn popper!

I meant to pass on to a quick note Al to say that the Nicaraguan Cloud Forest turned out nicely (mainly as espresso but once as a plunger too). I think the shenanigans probably helped. :-)
...A very impressive machine you have fashioned (a nod to Adi too).

Nice to know! I dare not push it that hard again

We've really tightened the whole thing up now, got it roasting with a PID, getting good repeatable roasts of about 15 minutes in length.
