I do worry about radio waves and wifi.Taken some steps to reduce this. I don't know what sort of harm comes from the IF waves of induction. This seems to be a higher level of radiation than our home wifi etc. although it seems TV and PC monitors are also emitting higher amounts these days. Not trying to knock the product. Still very interested. It looks awesome and friends report a fantastic bit of kit to play with.

I got on "good authority" that the sun posed our biggest radiation threat by a long way. The coffee, roasted "microwave style", will not be any more carcinogenic than any nice dark roast, you'd think.

While my opinion is that the concern is of a mighty long bow, I can understand that people have these sorts of questions in their heads. They say when it come to safety: "The only stupid question is the one you don't ask."

love the look of these roasters, by the way.

Ambrose seems to have it all worked out in this YouTube clip.

Or you could make up something similar to this simply at little cost.

The bullet does look like a very neat and well engineered roaster.

Yep. Better to die from coffee with a smile on your face.

Besides , how many joggers do you see smiling?

Depends if you see them 10 minutes after recovery from that run. Endorphins are real yo :P

Induction as compared to regular electric or gas. I am not sure that I like the idea of electromagnetics being so close to my beans let alone then consuming such beans. I'm not a massive fan or user of the microwave for similar reasons.
I am curious as to the source of this concern? Are you concerned about the effect of use of the induction heating mechanism on the user? Or on the beans?

First up, agreed, in the WHO study you have posted, the effects bear further study. And high dosages have been been associated with potential biological damages. But you have also bypassed the section in the article that indicates that the dosages experienced by the general public are usually well below the safe dosages recommended by the relevant authorities. It is only exposure to medical grade devices or high powered devices where the risk increases.

Secondly, if you are concerned about the fields created by induction cooking, what about the electromagnetic fields generated by microwaves, computer monitors? Or alternately, if talking about other frequencies, the EM fields from power lines or even your mobile phone? EM fields unfortunately are a fact of life in modern society. If it uses electricity, inevitably, there is an EM field associated with it.

However, your original post suggests that your concern is not about the effect of the use of the induction technology on the user, but the use of the technology on the beans? All the studies indicate a direct biological effect on the individual user, either through burns, or changes in the electrical activity of the body/cells causing more chronic damage. That is the main risk of EM fields. What are your concerns regarding the effect of EM fields on the beans? The roaster is using the heating ability of the EM field to roast the beans. And as for biological activity, we are by nature cooking the beans and there is no live activity after the fact? So, what are you expecting regrading EM effects on your beans?

It would be interesting to your KoffiePlease's concerns? Is it the effect of induction technology on the bean? Or on the end user of the appliance?

Thanks for your reply lupus. Main concern was for the user. I agree I wasn't clear on that point in my initial post, although initially I was hoping to get ideas on both. I get it that magnetic fields are all around and personally I am always being careful to limit these for myself and my young family. I guess with the use of induction in such a different way to what I've seen previously I had questions. I'd love to see the numbers in terms of EM radiation during use. I wonder where they would sit on a scale with other household items??
