Chaff in the Hottop generally falls to the bottom of the roaster where there is a collection tray that is removed and emptied at the end of each roast.

My roasting spot is out on the back patio. A nice steady breeze generally stakes care of any excess smoke and the smell of roasted coffee wafts deliciously through the house!

Great hearing of and seeing some setups!

Am currently roasting out the back under a shelter, there's a great bench space there.

But I'm now possibly considering switching to inside roasting... Weather can be so hard to plan around and seems to have such a large effect on the roast result... am thinking it might be more stable inside, but we shall see! Of course I could alter certain variables (drop weight of beans if too cold and vice versa), but wind is another thing that's hard to work around..

I do enjoy roasting outside though, it's quite relaxing

Not such an issue with the Behmor compared to some other setups, but roasting location is still determined by my wife.

So... detached garage, 140kms from our house..... (beach shack )

I roast on the deck outside our living area on a big outdoor table, this usually blows any smoke away from the house. I make sure I shut all the windows on that side of the house.

coolie21 sounds like our better halves have the same attitude to coffee/roasting smells, up until recently I had been doing sneaky roasts on 2 x roasters (a Behmor and a Gene Cafe I have just got running again) while the missus was out :-)
