    Re: QM1462  data logging  thermometer

Three weeks ago I was very fed up with my QM problems. I stripped the whole thing down to the circuit boards, pulled off the clicker and those litte metal bits. I gently cleaned every thing as I went and then put it back together.

To my suprise , scince I did this I have had no more problems. There has been no random temperatures and uncontrollable automatic switching to Farenheight. The C/F button still does not work, I just have to turn the dial 1 click clockwise and then back to change to Celcius.

I went to my local Jaycar yesterday to see if they had a replacement for me yet. All they had was the same one I returned last time. They said I have a lifetime warranty on mine so I could come bak any time and swap when they have another batch in.

If anyone is thinking of buying one of these, make sure you check the USB port. Try actually screwing it in in the shop. If the screws wont go in its probably part of the dodgy batch I have been stuck with.

    Re: QM1462  data logging  thermometer

I was in my local Jaycar store (Aspley Qld) this morning and they had two of these on the counter going for $89. The fellow behind the counter did a search and said there were quite a few around in other stores as well.

I have one of these, and the only issue so far is they do go a bit haywire if the battery gets low. Mind you it does have a low battery indicator, but that is probably for more intensive (resistance) tasks. Good unit, usb pc datalogging - just have to set the comm port in the roaster software prefs.

    Cheers

Havent had any issues with mine either "Sc"...

Nope.... neither have I - and I have two units used for all sorts of things!

One is exclusively a roast monitor which is used for each roast I do for myself as well as testing every customers roaster prior to dispatch....

All Ive ever had to do was change the batteries.

Maybe you had the misfortune of being sold (unknowingly) a couple of RMA units. I tend to use mine in all sorts of situations, not just with roasting or Brew Water testing, etc. Its never had a single hiccup (touch wood).... :

yes, I agree the CS software wors fine with the QM1462. My only issue is that the two of them I have owned are poorly made pieces of Sh!t that stuff up when you need them the most.

Hi Sink Cut. My 1462 works just fine. It will connect up to your computer and work with the CS software using the instructions in the links Andy gave. The software which comes with the 1462 is ok for checking everything is working properly but not much else. Dont forget; the 1462 has a button which says "USB", you must push the button for the USB to work (Doh).
    Good luck...

I bought one of the above DMMs in my link above, quite some time ago, and it came with everything and did the job I wanted at the time. The thing broke down about 18 months after but at least I got my moneys worth out of it

I also got the same thermocouple as Flynn QM 1323

On another post on Jaycar thermocouples
Andy indicated that hopefully by December 2008 we may be getting a special CS thermocouple
He is in the middle of testing the prototype to make sure all is working as it should

So if you can wait you should

If you cant wait that long and still want to be able to at least monitor the roast batch temperature, then there is a cheap DMM available from Jaycar that comes complete with temperature probe, and this may get you by until a datalogging version becomes available.

I bought a cheap one from Jaycar (not that model) that claimed to measure temp and have a temperature probe which didnt live up to its claims. I took it back and the guy scratched his head and happily gave me a refund.

I asked what they had in DMMs that did measure temp and he came back with a QM-1323 which includes a thermocouple cable for about $32

    Hi bigmomma...

    Sorry, no.....

The QM1541 is a straight Digital MultiMeter (DMM) and does not have a comms function for hooking up to a computer. Andy is currently testing a potential replacement for the original QM1538 unit and maybe if you can wait for another month or two, something will get sorted out for all of us.

    Hope this helps ,

QM1462 doesnt exist on the Jaycar website anymore.
If you search for QM1462 it will show you QM1541. Are they the same?

    thanks Andy,

I did find those refs. I rang jaycar and got them to save one for me.
Still looking for anyone who has managed to get xcell to update in real time. i.e. while roasting (without manually exporting a csv) . This would allow you to graphically compare current progressive profile to other profiles loaded on the same chart. I currently achieve this by logging manually, PITA but helpful in tweeking adjustments.

    Thanks

    David

    Yep.

Page 2 of the first link above:

For those of you with no com ports there is another option. The QM-1462 dmm has usb out and I have confirmed that it works with roast monitor.

Page 3 of the first link:

Ive just successfully installed it for my brand new Digitech QM-1462 with the USB. Thanks for the tips on the COM port - worked perfectly.

The second link was to the excel spread sheet that Intellidepth did such a great job on.

The above should help save you from reinventing the wheel.

    Thanks Andy,
I had done  a search on  1462  and turned up very  little....
So are you refering  me to these threads because the  CS software will also work with this model?
