Re: my first homemade roasting... stove, 1 pan, 1
Just a thought to consider make sure you gradually bring up the heat rather than putting it on full whack from the beginning. If you do this you will be able to get a better depth of roast than in the Popcorn maker.
From having a read Popcorn makers are only a few minutes unless modded to extended the roast. With the pan aim for first crack at 9 then 5 or 6 minutes to second if you are going that far. Based on my heat gun roasting with a wooden spoon you may even need to drop the heat slightly after first crack as the beans can race to second (had it happen to me :-[ )
happy roasting

Re: my first homemade roasting... stove, 1 pan, 1
If you spend the time to learn to roast this way I think you would get some good - possible great - results. Would be unique and more then likely to blur some of the more delicate flavours - instead leaving you with a more smoky roasted profile. Whats more it is a much more hands on and immersion based approach to roasting (definitely has that mad scientist aspect to it
)

You can do larger batches with the pan method and you can see what you roast

Re: my first homemade roasting... stove, 1 pan, 1
THANKS,
the Ethiopian batch came a little lighter in color, even tho it took a little longer at lower fire (about 14).
Ill keep on roasting till I get what I like..
question..!
is for any reason the popcorn popper better than a simple pan/whisk method?
I kind of like the simplicity of this way of roasting, more when thats how many Colombians do it.. and they know a bit about coffee..

Well hopefully they taste better after some rest. They are quite dark tho. If they come out very bitter then it is more than likely they are burnt.

Hi,
they are organic Colombian, I also roast a little batch of Ethiopian beans..
good to know that the test is better after 4 days, because I try them today (and I know that they need at least a day of chilling) and the test wasnt good at all.

They look a bit dark for my liking but how they taste will matter more.
Theyll probably taste better after at least 4 days.
What beans were they?
