Any places in KL worth checking out? Ill be in KL for 10 days in a month and will need to get a caffeine fix somewhere.

    Ive been suggested -

    1. Departure Lounge Cafe - serving 5 Senses
    2. Espressamente - Illy
    3. Coffee Ritual

      Re: Malaysia - KL

im from malaysia and as far as I know, forget about it, David.

the locals swear by their "sock coffee" - wok fried with butter that is roasted to about CS20.
then to cater for people who apparently like espresso, there is a starsucks just about every corner you turn.

however, i do go there often, so if you do discover something, id love to stand corrected!

        Re: Malaysia - KL

I grew to like the pulled coffee from toast box, but I hadnt had a good coffee for a while so even a massive milky latte from Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf seemed OK...(see photo below - that is a medium!)

Perhaps try the Godiva cafe in Pavillion. I cant remember if the coffee was great or not, but at least you are having awesome chocolate desserts to take your mind off it if its crap  ;D

Ill be in KL / Phuket come this time next month, so I guess the best suggestion is to take my Aeropress and kyrocera and some of my roasted coffee?

Where does the Malaysian Barista champ hang out? Ill be missing my espressos

            Re: Malaysia - KL

Just when I thought there was no hope, I think I may have found somewhere.

RAW Coffee, they roast (not cook), they have a mirage, they do aeropress / pourover. They roast for a few cafes around KL.

Judging by the photos and whats on their wall I wouls say that this will be my espresso fix in KL woohoo!

Does anyone have any updates on the KL situation? Going there soon and am trying to avoid having to take the Bacchi and Lido, but based on the posts to date I may have to?

I was born and lived in KL for years and still visit regularly.

Pulp in Bangsar (in the old printing press area) has hands down some of the best coffee I've had. Would easily hold it's own in Australia.

Consult foursquare for the rest as KL coffee joints are constantly upping their game these days. Search for third wave coffee is your best bet.

                  Wow... This is epically outdated...

KL - Try VCR, they have a few locations - 2, Jalan Galloway (off Jalan Pudu), Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur is one of them.
Also at 31 Jalan Telawi 3, Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur

                  PULP by Pappa Palheta -
29-01, Jalan Riong (59100), Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur

Eight Ounce Coffee - Mid Valley Megamall.

KL has a plethora of third wave coffee options these days, the above are just the ones I've gone to a few times and really liked, there are more that I can't remember off the top of my head, but well worth exploring.

I'll add one too, simple but good.
Nice coffee (doppio and a mac), good service and good pastries.

It's a Grind @ KL Sentral train station.

have to keep an eye out for them on my next trip to KL in September.... have never had good experiences with "modern" coffee... most of the ones I have tried are just terrible....

I like to find the old local coffee shops where they run the local coffee through a sock filter sweeten with condensed milk
