  • Coffee in Underwood - Sth of Brisbane

    Hi all,

Thought I would mention a little known coffee shop who roasts and blends his own beans at the Shops in Underwood.
Opens toward the end of the week normally due to deliveries but worth a visit. I normally buy my beans from Joe as he
is very local to me in Underwood.

It's called Simply Beans The Roastery Underwood.

Definitely agree with this. Joe is a lovely guy who consistently produces great coffee and is always on for a chat.

I just wish he was open more during the week!

Interesting. I'll have to go and check it out! Get's me out of West End for something different!

If you go on a Thursday or Friday morning you may catch him roasting. Which is always enjoyable.

Simply Beans how now become my default roaster to purchase beans when I don't have time to roast myself.

Unfortunately, my day job doesn't give me much free time on week days. At the office by 6am Mon-Fri usually leaving at 6-7pm. (Ah the transport industry, especially being on call weekends)

Out of curiosity, how often do you roast? I've been considering looking further into it but haven't been convinced yet. (Sorry for the slightly OT)

I dropped in and saw Joe on friday afternoon and this is a very quaint little store. Tucked away, and definately would be in its element in West End somewhere. This place is a little gem in the suburbs and is a nice little find in Logan. Nice little Diedrich roaster going and a very passionate owner. I picked up some beans as my latest roast is only 1 day old and will definately be back. Shop is situated at the side/rear of 2812 Logan Road, Underwood (Cnr Logan & Harris Road)

Picked up some of Joe's Supremo blend the other day as I had just got back from Sydney, and hadn't had time to roast. Just pulled this lovely looking shot for a study-promoting double shot latte.

PS: Hope the photos aren't too big.

Edit: Can't really tell you what I'm tasting, but I can tell you that it's the reason I make coffee at home. Very nice latte. Best I've had in a while.

I have it on good authority that Joe has picked up a new Coffee machine for his shop. I didn't get a brand, but he was having a play with it the other weekend when I dropped in late. I will be back this week for a coffee and will see how it goes.

I had probably the best latte from him that I'd ever had today. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get in myself (work colleague went on a coffee run). It was a very nice coffee. Joe always makes working Saturday's a little more bearable.

Definitely a new machine, I think it was a Ruggero brand (never heard of it before)... Joe was very happy that it had separate PIDd boilers for each of the 2 groups. Means he can brew his espresso at 92oC and everything else at 94oC.

Edit: It was similar to this:

But had the PID directly above the group heads...

On recommendation of people in this thread, I went here on Friday for a coffee and to pick up some beans.

Joe wasn't in -- there was a blonde lady making the coffee that day. I ordered a double espresso, which was good but not outstanding; especially from a roaster.

The cafe itself is lovely. It's in a warehouse type place, but the cafe part is built into the front. There is an array of beans and also machines, moka pots, etc.

The Supremo beans are quite good -- a bit harsh for straight espresso, but good with milk. I also got some PNG single origin, but will be saving that for the Aeropress on the long drive as we make our way back to Melbourne. No roast date on the bean packets though... what's that about?
