Re: Melbourne CBD
Market Lane: 2 nice flat whites a tad light for my tastes, great cafe.
Proud Mary: My first Esm syphon so nothing to compare to, I was surprised by a darker than expected roast, it was ok but not worth $9, great cafe.
Seven Seeds cupping: Learnt alot, it was very informative and 8 coffees a bit mind boggling for this novice cupper, all good though definately worth doing.
I love Melbourne !
Chris
Today Cafenatics and 65 Deg, looking forward to it.....

Re: Melbourne CBD
Hey Redzone. Youre absolutely right regarding the pour overs at Sensory Lab. Too much coffee and too little water. Underextracted and underdeveloped - I dont want lemon juice.

Re: Melbourne CBD
Sensory Lab: Loved the place, an ok flat white (cold cup)
and a free lesson on how to make pour over ie: 18gms coffee and it doesnt matter how much water you add ?? Its about how it pours ??
Ok fair enough but you ruined a great coffee with 18 gms in 150mls? way too strong dude IMO lol.
BBB: Nice flat white and average clover
Talk Coffee: Now thats better or am I biased
To be continued.....

Re: Melbourne CBD
Came across a new little shopfront today...Tobys Espresso Bar at 136 Exhibition Street, Melbourne, in between Bourke and Little Collins St. Its been open since last Tuesday...
Three lovely looking Mazzers, great coffee machine and some nice sweet treats (friands etc). Good selection of freshly roasted Tobys estate beans, coffee paraphernalia including tampers etc. The two guys were super friendly, had $2 short blacks including Ethiopian Harrar Blue Horse and Wooloomooloo blend. The Ethiopian was sensational.
Great addition to this end of town.

In the big smoke yesterday and a.m. today so we went to 65 Degrees at 309 Exhibition St. Great coffee and food ....very busy. Con, Peter and Jim Haralambopouloss place. Gridlock coffee.
Also looked in on Sensory Lab at David Jones 297 Little Collins St...
also a hive of activity. 8-)
Lunch yesterday and breakfast today at Di Bella.. it was very busy with standing room only for a table both times. Worth the wait of a few minutes though . Coffee superb yet again. [smiley=thumbsup.gif] Herbie

Re: Melbourne CBD
Yes they are only a few weeks old and havent built up much clientele yet, although they are getting there with the great SOs they serve up. Will is a great guy also and always up for a chat when he has time.Originally posted by 20070C3D31620 link=1218375732/37#37 date=1270001936Would add a recommendation to this.Originally posted by 3639332532362435570 link=1218375732/36#36 date=1270001488Some of you might like to try the new Cafenatics at Equitable Lane. Will (recent latte art winner) is the barista there.
Very funky little place.
Will is an excellent Barista and they have some interesting Single Origins available each day.
I also like the fact it has not been too busy when I have been.

Re: Melbourne CBD
Spent some time at 65 degrees today. Had some wonderful shots, recommend that you try it out if youre in Melbourne city.
Its nice to be able to visit an establishment where you can chat with barista (a world champ at that!) and discuss the shots, the shop and their future plans...exciting times ahead. Looks like there will be another roaster in town soon...
Javabeen.
