Cafenatics @flinders lane, nice flat white.

You shouldve gone to 500 Bourke St or Eclipse coffee just down Flinders Lane.

65 Degrees: Not my thing sorry, seriously thought about adding sugar
I had the same experience at 65 Degrees (mind you, id never even contemplate adding sugar).
With their outstanding pedigree and reputation in mind i gave them a few visits and whilst i could tell the coffee was of excellent quality and was well extracted, it did little for my palate and i also wasnt a fan of the vibe of the building.

                The same goes for BBB.
Its extremely popular, theyre producing quality but it simply doesnt do anything for my tastebuds.

The coffee scene in Melbourne is dynamic so my favourites change regularly but right im my favourite places are Sensory Lab, Switchboard, C.O.T and Cafenatics in Bourke St (near the superb Earl Canteen).

                  Re: Melbourne CBD

Melbourne Coffee when compared to Auckland, Christchurch or Wellington, Melbournites are spoiled rotton for choice. Apart from only one flat white at 65 Deg all other coffees were of a very high quality and would be greatfully accepted in NZ. In terms of service and coffee passion the staff at Seven Seeds, Market Lane, Proud Mary and Sensory Lab were standouts.
BBB and Cafenatics (bourke st) were just serving coffee as fast as they could and while they were no doubt passionate about coffee the service did nothing to reflect it.

                    Re: Melbourne CBD

happened across tobys espresso in exhibition st (i think) near collins st end.
they seem to be pulling dbl ristretto as standard so my short black was a dbl ris.
but that said it was balanced, pulled really well IMO. mirage and robur setup. tiny lil place

Tobys Estate is a roasting contractor based in Sydney and there are quite a few cafes in Sydney who either provide Tobys branded coffee or use Tobys to roast their beans for them.

Quality is usually pretty good and it ends up being whoever is behind the machine that makes the difference. I find Tobys has almost a distinctive taste.

Elevenses / Obscura are using Tobys estate at Lt Collins about 100m from Southern Cross Station. I had a couple of really nice flat whites from them last week from the shiny Mirage. Made with care and attention the result was really good in the cup. Nice welcoming space and great hosts too

                          Re: Melbourne CBD

Im doing a couple of days (tomorrow & Friday) penance at 271 Collins St, and will have the chance to grab a take-away while others get their nicotine hits, are there any recommendations for a reasonable coffee in Centre Place? (I wont have time to get as far as Degraves St during a tea break)

The nearest on my radar is Sensory Lab at 297 Little Collins St.
