  • Perth CBD - Open Weekends?

    Hi Guys,

Will be in Perth next month, staying in the CBD (Parmelia Hilton), and was looking for good coffee available on Sat and/or Sunday mornings. Have identified Standing Room Only, Willie Wagtail and La Veen thus far. Anything else worth looking out for (I'm working so will not be able to venture far from where I'm staying...).

    Cheers and thanks in advance.

Standing Room Only has great coffee but no breakfast, La Veen and Willie Wagtail have great coffee and food, can't go wrong with either of the three coffee-wise!!

Don't think Standing Room Only is open Sunday.

Most of the good ones in the CBD close on weekends sadly.

Gordon St Garage is a great breakfast spot, and should be open. Small Print is also great, and very close to your Hotel - can't recall if its open wekends though.

Thanks guys. Food/ no food is no problem for me, as I've got brekky covered in my hotel deal.....just know not to have any delusions of adequacy when it comes to hotel coffee

I'll back up Standing Room and La Veen, can't go wrong (as someone pointed out SRO is closed on a Sunday).

Believe Small Print is closed weekends as well.

Thanks again guys. Tried lattes / flat whites from Standing Room Only (Saturday), La Veen (Sun), and Small Print and Mo Espresso (Mon). All quite good, though I think my favourite latte was from Standing Room Only, with La Veen a close second. I had an enjoyable chat with the barista at Standing Room Only early Sat morning, a very nice guy who was really into his coffee. Also tried an espresso there which, as described, was quite a light Burundi roast....a bit light for my taste. Would happily re-visit each of these establishments.

If I'd known you'd be there Monday, I could have sent you to Ristretto or Howard St Coffee (my regular, but closed on weekends).

Thanks for this thread Barry, came in handy for me today.
Followed your recommendations and had flat whites at Standing Room Only, Mo Espresso & La Veen. All very good.
Will be on the look out for more in Margaret River at the end of the week.
                Cheers
                Mal

If you enjoy dark chocolate, make sure you stop at Gabriel Chocolate. Expensive, but exceptionally good! https://gabrielchocolate.com.au

No worries, Mal. If you're heading to Fremantle , The Attic is also v.good (I visited there a few months after the downtown trip).

                        Thanks for the recommendation MrJack.
Called in on Saturday, had a good chat (didn't realise there was a such a culture in chocolate), sampled and purchased some 72% dark chocolate and indulged in a hot chocolate.
Expensive maybe, but what price do you put on "exceptional"? (besides, we're on holidays)
In all, a very enjoyable experience.
                        Cheers

Just had a nice flat white at Headspace Coffee in 160 Central Arcade.
Last day in Perth before flying back home
Have really enjoyed our time around Perth and Margaret River.
Perth is so easy to get around with the free CAT buses.
M/R Very similar to home with beaches and vineyards just a short distance away, doesn't feel like we're so far away, but the sun setting into the ocean (as opposed to rising from) is a bit of a clue
                          Cheers

Was Headspace good? My regular (Ristretto) was in that spot until they closed recently, and I haven't been back to check out the new owners.

I found it to be quite good, mind you, it was a flat white in a take away cup, but on par with the same coffee from Mo Espresso & Standing Room Only.
It looked fairly new, so had a bit of a chat with the owners. Apparantly been open for a month, they previously lived in Jakarta and before that, Melbourne, where they gained their passion for coffee.
Bagged coffee for sale was roasted by Leftfield and had a roast date only 1 day old.
                              I wouldn't hesitate going back.
                              Cheers
