  • CoffeeSnobs medals Golden Bean 2019

Australia's biggest and best coffee roasting competition has just been run and won.

We picked up a total of 8 medals in the 3 categories we entered.

    Filter

Bronze - Ethiopia Shakisso Estate (also available here green)

    Milk

Bronze -Ethiopia Bensa Sagara (also available here green)

    Bronze - Cafe Seasonal Selection

    Silver - Espresso Wow!

    Bronze -Espresso Wow!

I'm really happy that we continue to pull medals for affordable coffees available to everyone. That's important to us.

Last night I handed over my overall winner crown to the guys at Glee Coffee Roasters. Good guys and great coffee, a well deserved win.

It was a week of great coffee everywhere and many of the commercial CoffeeSnobs members did really well too. Like a proud Dad, I always get a kick from seeing successful roasters that started their journey as a home roaster here.

I'm traveling back today and will be on the roaster tomorrow doing what we love!

Congratulations Andy. You've become a regular medallist now.
Good to see the Espresso Wow! still working its charm but you picked up medals for it in both the Filter an Espresso classes. Is that because of the versatility of the Wow or did you roast lighter for the Filter class entry?

Well done Andy, great results as always.

Without the lessons learnt and the green beans supplied via this forum my little business wouldn't have started and i definitely wouldn't have had the guts to enter the Golden Bean roasting comp!

I graduated form the home roasting comp to the commercial one and have applied the lesson i learnt here, and i managed to grab a silver medal again this year.

So thanks for providing the forum and thanks to the community at large for all the lessons learnt and the advice given

Nah, the formatting of my post made it a bit confusing, typed on my phone while waiting for the first flight ,(now waiting for another). I've just fixed it up.

Espresso Wow medaled in milk and espresso. It continues to do both well.

Was there any new fad style in your opinion that swayed the judges? Similar to wine shows where lighter-style chardonnays are the 'flavour' of the month/year and are judged accordingly.

i.e what are all the cool kids drinking :-)

I noticed a roaster was advertising on Facebook the other week (May have been Campos??) that they'd won "AUSTRALIA'S ONLY ROASTING COMPETITION" and it wasn't the Golden Bean
I'd heard of Golden Bean even before I fell down the coffee nerdery rabbit hole, I wonder how they can substantiate a claim like that

America has a National competition called a World Series.
Anyone can claim anything in these days of “alternate facts”.

I think the Australian Specialty Coffee Association has some sort of roasting competition. Doesn't look anywhere near as comprehensive though and is a pretty different format. More like the Barista Champs.

This one I think. The AICA is the only "International" roasting competition held in Australia is what they are saying.
