In near new or “as new” condition. Comes with Portapresso stand and Birzman air pump.
I was very intrigued about this espresso maker after being made aware of it by a CSer here late last year. They are normally sold out on the manufacturers website so they are not too easy to get hold off. It took me a couple of months and I got it by asking the creator, Ross, to email me when he had stock. He emailed, I pounced. Two days later they were sold out again.
It appears to me that the Portapresso has a strong following globally but that it is not as well known here in Australia, where it is made.
It weighs 1.7kg and seems to be mostly brass and steel.
Essentially the Portapresso is a travelling espresso-only machine for those who love superb lever-style espresso but want something more compact.
I played with the Portapresso for perhaps six shots and it was very easy to figure out how to use it. It’s never going to win any work-flow contests because you have to pressurize the cylinder and get the group head hot (a couple of pours with boiling water does the job) before you pour but the espresso is as good as it gets as CSer Paolo will attest. Paolo put his up for sale a few years ago then withdrew it when he made a couple of God shots on it.
In regard to getting the cylinder up to pressure, it’s quite straightforward. I bought a USB chargeable Baseus air compressor off AliExpress for $79 that does 150psi which produces a completely adequate 6 bar pour. I also bought a Birzman Zacoo Macht manual shock pump, used for getting shock absorbers pressurized on mountain bikes, as a backup.
Included in this sale are both pumps (Baseus and Birzman) and a travel case (from Australian retailer “Let’s Play Games” plus the brass stand.
The Baseus air compressor has not been easy to use so it comes with the caveat that it may be defective. Then again, if you can figure out how to reset it then it may be fine. I’ve certainly used it for all my shots and it worked a treat. But it goes in with this sale without cost because I can’t be sure it will perform as it should.
I paid $600 for the Portapresso, $80 for the brass support stand, $52 for the Birzman shock pump and $69 for the Let’s Play Games carry case which is 33cm long x 23cm deep x 13 high. So all up, I paid $801 plus shipping (excluding the Baseus air compressor).
Selling for $475 plus $30 AusPost including careful packaging. No offers please because it is priced so that a CS buyer is able to sell it within 12 months for at least what she/he/they paid for it. Share the love and all that.
