Up for sell is sell is my modded Nouva Simonelli Oscar 2. Sorry to blab on.
Machine was delivered during covid around Nov 2020. Oscar 2 is a very capable machine and was producing decent coffee from day 1. I average about 1-2 coffee per day and I am the only coffee drinker in the house.
As I continue my espresso journey I started encountering limitations with the Oscar 2. The biggest issue with the stock machine is its non-adjustable 12+ bar brew pressure and high water flow at around 250ml per 30 second.
I started doing lots of research on the machine and came across the following which inspired me to mod my Oscar 2:

The machine comes with all of the mods set up below and it sure makes great coffee! While I love this machine very much, I was gifted a Bezzera Duo so am thinking about letting this machine go if the price is right. Otherwise it may just sit at my brother’s place.
The machine has a minor cosmetic crack on the left bottom of plastic housing and 1 minor ding caused by my removalist last year (furniture must have pushed against the machine during the move). See photo – both cosmetic, and hardly visible
The machine was purchased for about $1400 and I spent roughly another $500+ on mods and extras…. I’m asking for $1200. Comes with 2 timber portafilter (double and bottomless).
Machine is located in Brisbane (pick-up preferred) but can arrange shipping at buyer’s expense, shipped with original packaging.
Mods include:

Mods include:
- Luminaire Shot Timer – times each shot from when brew button is pressed and stops when brew stops. (https://alternativebrewing.com.au/pr...sso-shot-timer)
- Adjustable OPV – stock machine is set to about 12 bar brew pressure. OPV allows brew pressure to be adjusted, I’ve brought the pressure down to 7 bar to suit my taste. (https://www.elektros.it/au/en/Oscar_...djustment.html)
- Installed/replaced brew head giggler at brewhead hot water inlet to achieve better temperature stability. Temperature usually stablise around 92 during brew. (https://www.elektros.it/au/en/Oscar_...it/gigler.html)
- Remove extraction delay – stock machine came with 3 second delay after brew button being pressed to ensure boiler is properly filled. Stock Oscar spits out water faster than it refills the boiler, at approximately 250ml per 30 second, hence the machine allow for some delay at start to ensure boiler is properly filled. The modded machine now has 150ml per 30 second waterflow so no longer need the delay (see mod 7).
- Removal of the 0.7mm giggler located right after the pump – this allows boiler to fill faster and hence making mod 4 possible.
- Installed Quick Mill Pulser – made machine quieter.
- Installed Synesso Ruby Jet Restrictor to solenoid valve – this reduced stock machine water flow of 250ml per 30 second down to 150ml per 30 second. But as a result of this, only soft water should be used to avoid calcium build up and cause blockage. Blockage as a result of calcium can easily to dealt with by running descaler through the machine.
- Upgraded pump to Ulka EX4 - quieter pump and slower pressure build up. Stock came with Ulka EX5 which will be provided with the sale to have as spare part. (see https://coffeesnobs.com.au/forum/equ...lka-ex5-vs-ex4)
- Installed Shower screen IMS (SI200IM). (https://www.amazon.com.au/IMS-Compet.../dp/B01KR7F5GY)
