  • SOLD Decent DE1+ Version 1.0.0

    Hi All,

For sale is my Decent De1+ version 1.0.0. I've owned it for about 4 and a half months (purchased second hand from coffeesnobs who I believe owned it for several months after purchasing it from someone also from coffeesnobs) and made about 2 espressos/milk drinks a day during that time.

The machine is in excellent condition, props to the previous owners as well for keeping it in such good condition. Let me know if you would like more photos

    It includes:
A Teclast tablet which isn't original
    • Bottomless portafilter
    • Double portafilter
    • 20g Decent basket
    • 15g Decent basket
    • The suitcase, in excellent condition
    • A super short power cable – nice if you sit it right in front a power point
    • A Decent digital milk thermometer
    • A stainless mesh puck screen

Also includes some 3D printed tools given to me by the previous owner
    • A 3D printed stand to suit an Acaia Lunar scale
    • A 3D printed tablet stand
    • A 3D printed tray that goes under the water tray to keep things in
    • A 3D printed blue portafilter stand for the bottomless portafilter

I will be selling it for the same price sold to me for $3350 and it is pick up only from Morwell 3840 Victoria

I’m curious to know why it’s gone through 2 hands in the past year and what your experience was with it?

have any upgrades been made to the machine to bring it up to current version?

has it not lived up to original expectations going in or is V1 missing some things from the latest that makes it seem an outdated machine?

I was initially interested in an upgrade to a decent but am now more leaning towards a solid dual boiler e61 upgrade.

Myself and the previous owner went to a spring lever after this machine, I can't speak for the other owners but I found myself wanting to go back to something more manual feeling and funnily enough something with less control than the decent.

No upgrades were made to this machine, maybe it would have made the experience different but I can't say any of the upgrades look like game changers to me. I am glad I was able to try it though and understand what the machine is about as an owner experience

As the owner prior to the person currently selling it, firstly, it is a great machine and works fine. No upgrades have been done of which I am aware. I gave it a thorough clean and descale when I got it, and it ran flawlessly in my hands.

Re. the tablet, the previous owner to me (who purchased it new) had the original tablet die. As I recall he purchased the replacement from Decent, and the Teclast is what they supplied him. I think they might still be supplying the Teclasts....

As for why I sold it, I had always wanted to try one, and when the opportunity presented itself, I couldn't resist it. I had an ACS Vesuvius Evo Leva at the time, and ran it and the Decent concurrently. Prior to the Vesuvius Evo, I had a modded Strega (PID on group and boiler), so I like lever machines....

After lots of playing around with different settings etc. on the Decent, and generally discovering all the things it could do, I found that I eventually just created a profile that largely re-created that of the Vesuvius Leva, which was pretty much the only one I used. I mainly ended up using the Decent when I wanted a coffee and the Vesuvius wasn't on, as the Decent heated up more quickly (5' vs. 15').

I think I discovered that I really enjoy the manual involvement of a lever machine (albeit a highly flexible one), and didn't have the desire to continue to play with all the variables on the Decent.

But the Decent is a great machine, and a great way to learn about making espresso and what variable have what effect etc... If you have ever hankered to have a play with one, this is probably a great opportunity. If you decide it is for you, then you got a great deal, and if not, I anticipate you will be able to sell it for what you paid for it and have satisfied your curiosity in the process.

Where can I find out what changed with newer versions? Interested but not sure if there's much I'd miss out on by getting an older version

I think the Decent site provides that information.

Some minor differences, but probably the main thing is the lack of the group controller panel on the top of the group head. It isn't realistically possible to add that to this machine.

I've never used the group head controller interface, but I'm not sure it would have really made much difference to my experience with the machine. It adds more control, or more variables, depending on your perspective......

Yeah the big difference is the group head controller, which they had to add for US compliance. The group head controller allows
You to start the espresso/hot water / steam. Without the GHC you press a button on the tablet. The GHC can also adjust pressure manually but I never use that function.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately it seems that people without a Decent machine already can't access the info page 'Differences between DE1 v1.0, v1.1, v1.3, v1.4 and v1.5' at https://3.basecamp.com/3671212/bucke...nts/4138037461

Jaguor, maybe post on the Decent thread and ask John to repost that page in thread. Decent like to keep a lot in locked forums till you are an owner but I doubt this information is intended to be. John obviously wants to sell new machines but this information is important for the second hand values. This is the Decent thread - https://coffeesnobs.com.au/forum/equ...1-any-thoughts

              Hey Snowy3,

Did you end up selling this machine? I am in the market for an upgrade after my BES920 finally gave up the ghost.

I can't seem to DM you.

              Cheers
