  • SOLD [MEL] Lyn Weber HG one grinder (1st batch)

For sale is the Lyn Weber Workshops HG one with the 71mm burrs, which is the same as the Niche Zero and Mazzer Kony, but due to the low rpm of hand grinding, it has less fine production and a cleaner flavour profile.

This is from the very first batch of HG ones - the final assembly still being done at Craig Lyn's garage at the time - and one of the first to hit Australian shores. This is one of the rare ones with a super clean look as it doesn't feature any markings, and if you find some sort of marking to be beneficial, you can easily fashion one (I stuck a little dot on it for a while, but eventually removed it).

I've had this for a decade now, and it still looks like and functions like when it was new. There are some marks on it (see photos), but very minimal considering how long I've had it for. This grinder can truly last you a lifetime.

Comes with the awesome blind tumbler which gives you a nice even distribution right off the bat, and a little cup to pour the beans in (both came with it when new).

Any prospective buyers should be aware that this grinder doesn't have any anti-static screens, so static can be a problem, and RDT is a must.

Asking $800 paid via PayID on pick-up at Thornbury, Victoria.

You didn't say how much the payment would be. As per the Site Posting Policy all sales ads must include an asking price.

The niche and kony have 63mm conical burrs right? So it's different. I would be interested if it wasn't so similar.

What happened to your 83mm burrs amberale?

          I'm not sure MoM.
I know there was an early series where LW replace some sub-standard burrs.
My HG-1 was heavily used in a roasting premises for a long time and most of the coating has come off them and it is very hard to grind.
The alignment is good and I only use med med-dark beans but I have to clamp it to a bench to use.

Also I am not suggesting in any way that there is anything wrong with Kywong's HG-1.
          It looks fantastic.

You're right mapperoffallmaps - the 71mm burrs are actually Robur burrs not Kony burrs. Unfortunately, I can't seem to update the post, but thankfully this is under rather than overstating its specs!

From what I've read, the primary difference is actually driven by the speed, with Niche Zero spinning at a very high rpm producing a lot more fines, and the 71mm burrs' advantage is more in speed and ease, as per what amberale said.

BTW this is a terrific price for anyone wanting to try the Robur burrs and the Hg-1 is delightfully smooth to grind.

Roughly how long does it take to grind 18g or beans?

It takes me around 25 rotations to grind 20g for espresso. So depends how fast you want to turn the crank. Takes me less than 15 seconds.

Looks very nice Kywong. I second that it's a good price. Great grinder.

Sorry noob question, but anyone know the difference of this version and the normal hg-1 apart from no marking?
            I really don't know if I should get this eventhough I've got a comandante mk3 :')

What do you mean by 'normal HG1?. This is a normal HG1. Can you clarify what you mean?

As far as I know, later model HG-1s only came with 83mm burrs.
The 71mm are said to take less effort to grind while giving a very similar result.
This model has infinitely variable grind adjustment with the adjustment collar held in place by a pressure screw on the side.
The later models have a lift and turn slotted adjustment collar.
Some later models have a longer arm on the handle for less effort.

              Thx amberale for the clarification
Also to enthusiast, because I'm not sure how many version of hg-1 in the market either (i read every year or so they slightly tweak the design for minor improvement? Can't verified) hence I just call it 'normal hg-1' in compare to this as the 'first batch hg-1'. Still they look great nonetheless
