  • SOLD Olympia Moca SD for sale

Up for sale is my Olympia Moca SD. Bought from Talk Coffee and landed in mid-late December 2022.

Had perhaps a total of 1-2 kgs of coffee put through it – probably closer to 1 than 2.

Amazing grinder, awesome fluffy grounds, built like a tank and will no doubt last as long.

Thought that this would be my long termer, as I wanted to get back into a flat burr grinder, but alas not to be Unfortunately it’s not the flavour profile I’m chasing.
So according to the boss lady, this has to go before I can look around for another.

Cost just a smidge under $2,700 delivered. Pick up preferred Alex Headland, Qld, but have original packaging and can post (with insurance) at buyers expense (around $110+ I think) with Aussie Post.

May I ask what flavour profile this grinder did deliver, and what profile were you seeking?
    Awesome bit of kit.
    Cheers

      Hi Adam
I’m more a light-medium roast type of guy, love a brighter, fruitier style shot (though I still go for dark roasts at times)
Found (for me) that the Moca didn’t deliver as nice a shot across a broad range of beans as the Niche I have had for a while. I picked up on more flavours with the Niche, which I found interesting, as I did a lot of research on this grinder, and thought it would be well suited for me. Most reviews were the other way around, with the Moca delivering a better taste profile for lighter roasts, and the Niche excelling in dark roasts. Go figure, I can’t
And yes, and awesome little machine

It's fascinating to me how taste buds are a bit like fingerprints in that they have some commonality but they're all quite unique. I'm sure there's a lot of people that are scratching their heads try to figure out why yours work differently to theirs but the tongue what wants what the tongue wants!

For anyone considering this grinder FWIW I've now had 21 different grinders across my coffee bench in the last two years and I rate this the best of the best for flavor and work flow (with the Honne a very close second).

While all of our taste buds might be individual this grinder absolutely shines for anyone wanting medium roast espresso or slightly lighter or darker e.g. medium light or medium dark.

        GLWTS, this is a bargain.

It is funny in a lot of ways tompoland - your review is what tipped me towards the Moca, as thought I wanted a flat burr grinder again; now I'm not sure which way to go (‘◉⌓◉’)

Hi, is it a noisy grinder?

Hi DGee, it's noisier than the Niche, though the Niche takes 15-20 seconds for a dose, and the Moca 6 seconds

Have a look at tompoland's review, you'll be able to hear it there

Thank you very much! I have a WW EG 1 which wakes my wife and the baby. So I'm looking for something smaller and quieter. I am very sad to be selling the EG 1. Will be posting it shortly!

Yeah, so much though I love the Moca SD (and sold my EG1 to buy a second Moca) it is anything but quiet :-(

But it is a 6 second grind time so as jwm888 posted, the volume is somewhat offset by the duration which is fine if my wife is sitting nearby, doesn't even raise an eyebrow BUT that 6 seconds would be a deal breaker if it there was a sleeping baby on the other side of the wall.
