  • SOURCED - Vibiemme Piccolo (Levetta)

WANTED - Vibiemme Piccolo (Levetta) or similar machine, I have spent many hours researching the threads on coffeesnobs and i have come to the conclusion my life will only be complete when i own one of these!

just thought there might be someone offloading one at a good price close to xmas?!

i already have a good grinder and am using a stovetop currently.

    cheers, Rick

EDIT - Price, anything better than $1250 (which i can get one new for.)

    gday Rick,

welcome to CS! you need to include a price range according to the site rules.

a great choice. hope you find one, but because its such a great choice very few come up for sale 2nd hand. best bet is to find a demo.

    cheers,

    sd

ps. can i ask what grinder you own?

You want to buy one 2nd hand? You need to state a price you are prepared to pay. Whats a good price? You wouldnt pick one up for under $1000
and they dont come up very often - unless.. someone wants to throw a free Giotto Premium Plus my way, then I will pay my Levetta forward

A few sponsors have them brand new: Jetblack (Sydney), Talk Coffee (Melbourne, and by association, Cuppacoffee in Sydney), Di Bartoli (Sydney) and possibly others. If you are keen for one before Christmas then these would be your only bet I think.

If you can a get a new one for $1250 then grab it because that is a $150 or so cheaper than the RRP for a Levetta at present. As per sds message, do you have a grinder? I know its quoted ad nauseum on CS but getting a good grinder first really is the best advice

yeah i am close to deciding to do so, will wait a few more days in case there is someone looking to upgrade a Vibiemme or something similar.

i had a look at a 2nd hand Bezzera too, from what i could research it would be no better than the Vibiemme - would most snobs agree?

That depends on the model ?? Bezzera model ?? VBM model ??
You can only compare like for like
But in your case if you are considering a better spec model at a lower price then what is someone to do except to bite the bullet and go for it

BZ02S versus the VBM Piccolo Levetta (2nd hand excellent condition V new = same price)

BTW, someone asked about my grinder, its a La San Marco SM 90/A - i think its equal to the task ;P

Re: WTB - Vibiemme Piccolo (Levetta)

I think the Bezzera 702S is semi-automatic - I guess that means push button volumetric. But I think it is HX so you can steam milk at the same time as pour shots.

The VBM Levetta is completely manual and you cant steam and pour shots at the same time.

BTW, we were asking if you had a grinder ie not buying the machine without considering the grinder purchase

Id grab one of these every time over a "Levetta" style machine (for the same money ).... When KK was talking about comparing like with like above, this is a pretty decent little HX machine whereas the Levetta is a Single Boiler/Dual Purpose machine - Chalk and Cheese, as the saying goes..... :P

mmm...its getting confusing! I thought the fact that the VBM uses an E-61 group while the Bezzera doesnt was a factor in the favour of the VBM, is the advantage of the HX machine like the Bezzera only that you can steam and pour at the same time, or will it also make a better/same quality espresso, easier/with less skill??

No, its not really much to do with individual parts "galumay" more to do with the overall machine design and the result "in the cup" at the end.

The VBM Levetta/Vashetta is a great little machine, no mistaking that and perfect for someone who never expects to churn out more than 4-6 coffees in a session. If you expect that you may be called upon to do more than this every now and again, then the BZ02S will be in its element. And as far as quality coffee is concerned, both machines are capable of producing excellent coffee cup after cup after cup..... Being able to work to the machines potential is a different matter entirely and up to the user to maximise. Attending a decent Home Barista course or two would definitely help; use the best grinder you can afford and always use high quality, freshly roasted coffee only ground immediately before brewing.

                            Cheers,
                            Mal.

                            P.S.
Id suggest though, if you want to further assess the pros and cons of various machines, that you open a new thread in the appropriate category and pursue your questions there. This thread is getting very much Off Topic.....
