Unfortunately with our baby arriving I must get rid of my older baby, Silvia. This is the NEW MODEL Silvia and is just over 18 months old, however I stopped using it a few months ago and have been keeping it as a spare machine. Due to my work commitments taking me away for a huge amount of time, you could easily halve that usage time to a bit over 6 months in a "normal" household of 3 shots per day. Sadly I cant justify having such a good machine "just in case" so would like to offer it to my fellow snobs.
Those who know me know Im pedantic to the extreme (my wife just calls me anal!), however I am comfortable in saying this is possibly the nicest PID Silvia Ive seen offered for sale... which is kinda handy when its mine! Externally it has no marks of scratches that I can see, with the exception of very slight marks on the drip tray under the portafilter where the cups sit as theyve been slid in and out.
Internally it is fitted with quality PID, which I tested for the manufacturer and provided feedback on the kits suitability to this new model Silvia (the models DO vary very slightly inside BTW). Unlike most PID installations, the thermocouple doesnt just screw onto the outside of the boiler, but is fitted into a machined fitting installed into the boilers thermowell. As far a temperature measurement, this is about as good as non-contact measurement can get and gives excellent stability.
The machine can be converted back to completely stock configuration without any holes or marks should you ever have a fit of insanity, and I will provide the stock thermostat so you can wear it as a pendant to tease your non-PID mates. In addition to the standard Rancilio instructions, box, and test certificate, the unit comes complete with very thorough instructions on how to tweak the PID, although it is set up ready to go.
As far as performance, it was descaled about 6 months ago, though with such little use it wasnt really necessary. Those who own a PID Silvia will testify just how well they perform, while taking up relatively little counter space. I can honestly say it produces better quality micro-foam that my big Bezzera plumbed machine, which is good for the buyer but REALLY annoying for me.
The price of the machine is $900, not bad considering the price of babies these days! Sorry guys, no offers on this one, this is one of a kind machine and thats the price.
