  • !!SOLD!! - Commercial San Marino 2 GRP

I have this San Marino that I think I am going to sell. I was going to do it up and maybe even build some funky case for it for something different. I think the boiler is about 10L and if the case was modded it could be quite compact.

Anyway I dont think I am really going to get time to do it properly, my other machines need some loving as well.....

    heres the BAD NEWS
It works (mostly) the  volumetrics are NOT WORKING, they get power but dont work. I dont know why?, wish i did . In the 1st pic you can see a little hole on the control panel LHS for the timer, the turn bit is missing but the "pot" is inside intact. Maybe they can be fixed by a electronics wizz if you know one? They are old school and worked on TIME not volume, there is no flowmeter on this machine.

See the pressure gauge, the water pump side (lower) is not reading right, with no water attached it reads 14 bar.... I was going to try to fix it, but have not touched it. It does push higher when in operation "pumping" but hits the bottom of the BP needle. Boiler pressure reads what i assume is right during operation.

Only has one steam arm, the other side has a crappy "auto steam" type thing. i was going to blank off the off take from the boiler with a "plug" You could choose to have the steam on the left or right or buy another arm, only the arm is needed as all other pipes are there for 2 steam arms Brand new ones are +- $70

    It also needs
2 new group seals, current ones sit at about 75 deg in "lock" as per pic $12
needs  2 but better with 3 new "steam" knobs +- $24 (depends on your choice about 2nd steam arm?) prior owner smashed 2 off
    anti-vac valve is leaking a little $14
Replace the 2 manual brew switchs $24 (not urgent, they work)
"ON" light works but is dull (240V)  $?
You will need to get some piping, i will supply the one to the pump -> machine as in pic, not water tap -> pump $20

    and the GOOD NEWS

it runs fine, by the pressure gauge i have it sitting on 1 - 1.2 bar. It happily chugs away. Motor runs well, it has GICAR auto fill (RHS top) that works fine (not linked to volumetrics), Sirai works well. 2600 watt element heats it up in around 20mins
I gave it a full descale, pulled the boiler out and all pipes (except 1 small 1)

I had it running late last night but have not made any coffee on it since putting it back together. Once my new greens arrive from Beanbay I will be roasting some to put through it as my stock is low.

Other things i would (was) do would be to clean and paint the frame as there is a little rust around the manual fill valve area. Not real bad just would tidy it up for the future. The outside has a few small chips and dings but is OK in its bronze form.

I was thinking of replacing the faceplate to make it manual only, or maybe finding a gicar board from something else and making new switching? Maybe even a ARDUINO controller, with PID and fun things?

You could use it at home?
It might be perfect for some workshop or office?

If your interested PM me, I prefer you come look and we can make a coffee on it. But if you want postage I will help out a loyal CSr and pack it as best I can, you pay freight but. I can take more pics, you ask i shoot. I am in MOSMAN NSW 2088

    PRICE IS +-$400

For anyone still watching at home
thought i would try the temp reading on the SM this arvo all just water, and not really measuring the volumes.

now much has been said about the SMs running hot and yes it needed a flush to make it fairly stable at 93ish.
Interestingly the 1st shot pulled after letting it sit for 1 min or so kicked off in the  high 80s but very quickly ramped to 93ish stabilized for a good few seconds then increased to 96-98. It would then come back down to +90ish. I was not measuring volume but just watching it "range" as the water flowed. To get what i thought would have been an OK temp shot i would have done a 5-10 sec flush then lock the GH and make the coffee.

I tried pulling 4 shots, but my grind ( to coarse) was out so they were fast pours. One was ok to drink. Pump also needs to be dialed in 100% sure its over 9bar......

You can see my mobile doser in the pic.

at rest after heat up 30 mins or so, GHeads were not fully heated in this pic they got hotter after lots of water. Not sure what they would come back to after time?

Hey Leeham, its a pity you didnt get to start/finish this project. It actually looks in pretty good condition already.
So what is it you are working on at the moment?

            Hey Sooty

painting the house....... reno the bathroom..... putting in a driveway.... doing the garden makeover...... all before xmas..... you get the picture...

now that i have the case back on and it fired up i am liking it again.
But i get bored.... i have AADD adult attention deficit disorder  lol
Thought i would list it, someone might want a project / workshop / office machine.

Hi Leeham, I understand it all, been there, done that, doing it again, it just never stops.
Anyway , Im also contemplating selling my SM, nothing wrong but it is pretty large for a home machine, if it was a 2 grp compact Id probably hold on to it. I also wouldnt mind another project to work on.
Still havent decided, just thinking out aloud.

Hi Hamish B and welcome to CoffeeSnobs,

I was the person interested in this, and without a major plumbing issue at our rented unit (cant be plumbed in ) my wife and I wouldve bitten Maheels hand off for it. I checked it out last week with a few shots of a Costa Rica Doka Estate single origin that offers quite a challenge on lesser machines. When paired with a decent grinder (or even an indecent one), itll be a fantastic purchase. The pipework and boiler are in excellent condition, and the few small cosmetic issues dont affect the shot. Its definitely worth the drive.

Re: 4SALE Commercial San Marino 2 GRP

LOL thanks CH, you really dont like my RR45 grinder do you

Yeah its back in the shed but still up for sale. The Costa RDE was very nice to BTW we finished it off with some guests on Sunday who were suitably impressed.

As CH said the issue he had was it seems to need positive pressure (needs to be plumbed in etc) as we could not get enough pressure from the pumps to just use a bucket. He was intending not to plumb it in for now.

The pump adjuster was sticking but and I have cleaned it out but have not tried it on a bucket again. We actually tried 2 pumps on a bucket and neither would work off the bucket?

So take that into consideration and shoot me a PM to discuss. Would be one BIG step from an IKON ;D.

                      Your welcome to come demo.

I think your grinder was fantastic value for money - but I do think grinders are usually the most limiting parts of peoples setups.

Think we actually tried 3 pumps? ..but all worked perfectly for plumbing in and were a cinch to get to run @ 9 bar using the manometer.

Re: 4SALE Commercial San Marino 2 GRP

PUMP now makes an easy 9 bar (130psi) from a bucket, gave it a run this arvo and could wind it off my gauge 150psi+
i could fine adjust all up and down the scale, maybe just needed the clean of the adjuster?

so running from a tank is an option

do a borats resto on it ??

The sides would look great in metallic silver too! I can see it now..

Thanks for the feedback guys. Sounds great! Im a poor uni student, so I dont mind doing a bit of a fixer-upper - its good for the soul anyway. But I do need to be able to draw from a bucket so its good that it does.

Whens good for you? I can come down Friday or Saturday, if either of those is convenient?

                              Cheers.
