  • SOLD: Hottop D, Melbourne Pickup

    Hi all,

I picked up a second-hand hottop D a few months ago with the intention of modifying it and have been having a bit of fun with it.  I have decided to focus my modifying energy on my espresso machine with the help of Craig from 9 Bar, so Id like to sell this hottop.

The hottop did a few hundred roasts with the previous owner and has done a dozen or so with me.  It comes with two extra rear filters and Ill throw in some coffee for you to experiment with.  The hottop is working as it should and I have taken it apart to give it a good cleaning.

The hottop D has a profile built in to it that you cant change, but you can manipulate the roast by changing the amount of green that you put in it and how far into the roast profile you load the green.  I put my efforts into working out how to use it for filter coffee and in doing so I took a roast in to a cupping session with a local Melbourne roaster.  I was delighted to find that I put my batch 2nd of the 11 samples in the blind tasting.  Personally, I think that the best feature of the hottop is its cooling, which is very rapid.  I thought that this made it very easy to control the roast level without having to take into account the effects of the coffee continuing to roast in a slow cooling.

If you want to get more control over the variables, you can pick up the Hottop-B upgrade kit from Greg Pullman and end up with a B model Hottop for $400 less than a new one.  Alternatively, if you are a sparky, you might be able to modify it yourself to control the fan and the element independently.

I am asking $580 and I dont have a box for it, so its Melbourne pickup only unless theres an easy way to package this thing for shipping.

    Cheers,
    Luca

CS member that sent me a PM after Moto Coffee
          A Bravington
          Tony
The other CS member that contacted me

          PMs to follow ...
