Up for sale is my 2.5 year old Gene for a good price. I have probably done 2 or 3 batches a week average and it works as new. Cosmetically it does look used - not as shiny as it was. I roast with the chaff collector out of the window and one day the chaff collector fell off as it was always a bit loose - a bit of epoxy had it back together and I have a jar lid as a cap now. Functionally it actually is better than it was as the collector is now a good fit and so is the lid. You can buy a new collector for $50 or better still get the large collector and duct smoke away, but the current one is quite functional so I cant see the need other than cosmetics. The clear flip up shield is a little loose and tends to come off but slots back easily enough.
I replaced the heater element under warranty and about a year ago I replaced the drive cog - the newer style is reinforced with a collar to prevent the problem and I expect will last for ever.
The roaster is a 240v model bought from an Australian supplier but has a 2 pin plug that requires an adapter ( included ) to match an Australian 3 pin plug.
There is quite a bit of info on how to get the best from these roasters on the net. I found they are very sensitive to overloading ie airflow. If you dont clean the filters or put in too many beans the overheat cutout will keep clicking in and drop the temperature. I found it worked best with batches of 200g or a little more and not try to do 250g. I suspect each machine is slightly different depending on the actual heat output of the element and the sensitivity of the overheat sensor. Roasts typically take 16-18 minutes and I watch the first batch closely to get the "time for the day" and then do any other batches at that time. Some people use an external cooler and I can see the value in that but I have never done it - the roast does continue a little after you start the cooldown but if they look a little darker than perfect i reduce the time of the next batch . Its a good roaster to do reasonable batch sizes with minimal intervention.
Postage is whatever Australia Post charge. I wont charge for packing. I dont have the original box but will pack well with bubble wrap and box as it does have glass parts so you will have to allow a bit for packing materials in the weight. I wont give you an exact quote as I wont know it until packed up but you should be able to get a good idea from AP. Shipping is from NSW 2428. I will be in Sydney 12/13 Dec staying near Brighton (Botany Bay) and I guess there is a small chance I could hand it over in person but most of my time is taken up that weekend so I cant guarantee it - would save me the job of packing though.
