Re: FS: Macap M4
Hi
I have an M4 at home and use it for espresso and plunger. Its not too much time to wind the dial several times to get coarser grind for plunger. Just note the position of the ring so you can go back to the setting that you had before.
Now what I actually do is not bother making the grind coarser for plunger but just reduce the steeping time. I use the vast amount of ground coffee in the doser left from knocking off the coffee at the top of the basket before tamping and use that for plunger. I steep for just 2 mins. For most types of beans I have not really noticed much difference in using a coarser grind - I like a strong cup anyways.

Re: FS: Macap M4
Changing from espresso to plunger would be a bit of a hassle to be honest, if you were to use the worm adjustment. You can take out a couple of screws, swing back the worm, and move the upper burr carrier by hand, but this is not something you would want to be doing on a daily basis. I looked at changing this grinder to stepped, and it is possible, from memory the parts were ~$80.
I understand that these type of burrs are good for 300-400kg, so there is plenty of life left in them. Certainly when I was using it the results were very good in the cup (no noticeable difference to my current Macap, which has only had ~4kg through it).
Hope this helps.

Re: FS: Macap M4
As these have the worm drive adjustment on them how hard is it to change from plunger to espresso or even to decaf? How much life is left in the burr set considering they have been through ~ 150kg?

Re: FS: Macap M4
Some interest initially, but this grinder is still available.
Price reduced to $500 and I will throw in 1kg of freshly roasted beans or 3kg of green beans (6 origins to choose from).
Local buyers preferred, but will post interstate at buyers cost.
Rgds,
Simon

Is this still available and would you have an idea of postage costs to Melb??

Re: FS: Macap M4
Seemingly no interest in the West, so I will now consider opening it up to all. I would partially disassemble the grinder for transport, so the buyer would have to be willing to:
- re-fit the doser chamber (2 screws)
- screw in the threaded upper burr carrier
- re-fit the stepless worm mechanism (2 screws)
- dial in the grinder (~500g of coffee depending on you skill/experience)
Freight costs to be covered by the purchaser, feel free to PM me if you would like more info.

!!SOLD!! - Macap M4
For sale is my Macap M4 Doser. Purchased November 2009, 2nd hand from a fellow CS member.
It is approximately 3 years old and has ground 150-200kg from new (sorry I cant be more specific). It is in very good used condition with only slight cracking to the doser chamber worth noting. This seems to be a fairly common problem with this design, however not structural in this case, just cosmetic.
Selling for $550 with local pick-up only (Perth southern suburbs), as I dont have the original box and these grinders dont seem to travel well.
Reason for sale, couldnt get used to the doser so have gone back to doserless. Otherwise I cannot fault it, so much so that I went for the exact same grinder in doserless form.
