Hi Fellow Snobs,
After my romance with Miss Silvia and the introduction she gave me to the world of espresso I have since decided I want to upgrade to a HX,
Purchased from JetBlack in May 2011 ($719) it is as new, bar the usual slight scratching on top of the cup warmer and drip tray!!!!!! This has been my baby for the 4 months I have had her. But I must add this is no ordinary Silvia.
Since purchase I became more and more interested in coffee and tried increasingly to improve the results, and being the perfectionist I am; I made the following modifications/additions: 8-)
- Watlow S3DC PID with steam control ($380 from Jim) for your reading see link for PIDkits http://pidkits.com/kits.html
- Flat Rancilio Shower screen ($25)
- Triple OEM Rancilio portafilter ($200)
- Insulated boiler, Group head, Steam pipes ($60)
- La Marzocco Single filter basket (7g) ($15)
- Synesso Double Ridgeless basket (14g) ($20)
- Rancilio triple basket (21g) ($15)
- Rancilio Single spout ($20)
So with all that I calculate to date a cost of $1,454
What does this mean you potential ‘buyer’. This is the ultimate Silvia that doesn’t require temperature surfing, no channelling due a hex nut spoiling your puck, a machine with quicker heat up and temperature stability; and lastly a portafilter which can hold a 21g basket without having to go bottomless.
As for the important facts for the next discerning owner.
Maintenance consisted of:
- a back flush after every use, empty of drip tray and wipe down etc.
- Chemical back flush once a week with disassembly of brew head for a thorough scrub and soaking of steam wand.
- Descale every three months.
- Replacement of group head seal every 6 months (just replaced)
- Use of Brita Jug and Bombora in-tank softeners
Typical use:
- 2 coffees morning and night on weekdays
- 3 coffees Saturday/Sunday
Asking Price $750 (updated) this will include filter baskets machine, Portafilter double/single, replacement group seal, spare Bombora filter and original invoice. (incl. original baskets and shower screen),
Please note all my modifications are reversible as no drilling etc was performed and all original boxes etc are available.
As for buyers I would love a local pickup/dropoff if your not too far (Melbourne Western suburbs) as with the PID attached it is probably more fragile to transport but I am open to all offers.

Im fine with that but as I am picking up my new machine from Chris this weekend, it has to go otherwise the financial controller will chop off my downstairs.
