Compared to the Silvia or Gaggia Classic the VBM is a good step up. It has the E61 group which is very temperature stable as well as being "forgiving" (rather than fussy as is the Silvia) and a range of high quality parts inside. It is quite solidly made and should last for at least 20 years or so.

I upgraded for a few reasons--Im "crazy" for great coffee and Mals review of the Diadema tipped me over the edge.[smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] I have also started to do more entertaining and making more than 3 or 4 milk drinks at a time is easier and quicker on an HX machine. The fact that the money became available helped a lot.

I dont know your grinder, but the VBM worked very well with a Rocky, and I think that is in the same range yours. The VBM is also capable of taking advantage of much higher quality grinds.

A search of this site should provide you with a lot of info about both the VBM and the Challenge.

Thats a great looking machine! I am looking at upgrading from my (modified) sunbeam em5600, I was thinking a single boiler like a Silvia or Gaggia Classic as my next logical step, but at this is an interesting alternative at the price you are asking. I have some questions:

I currently have an iberital challange grinder which is about the same age and has had about the same use os the machine you have for sale i.e. still in great nic. Would this grinder be a good match or will I need a different one?

I am looking for a machine to hang onto for the long term, so if you dont mind, what features needed upgrading?

Hi all,

This brilliant machine is still available, and is still at a bargain price of $1050 (new retail is $1569!!!). It has had less than 18 months of light use and been "fussily" maintained, and only fed filtered soft water.

Made by VBM and called the Domobar, or Piccolo, or Vashetta or just plain beautiful, it is in immaculate condition as the photo clearly shows.

An absolute bargain Greg....Given that there are few/no new ones around for a couple of months and that $1200 is the going price for a pre-loved CS one, this should be already gone.

CSers, if youre considering a Silvia and can scrape a few more $$$, grab it...

My new machine has arrived--albeit with some transport damage, sigh , so the VBM has to go. If I cant sell it, I guess I *could* ship it to my sister so there is good coffee there when I visit--the trouble is she wont really appreciate it, and it is a fair while between visits.
