Re: Re: coffee roaster fs in Melb
havin fun in here tonight!
yeah look its a total waste for single home users to buy a 70k bag. Even if you get it cheap, say you use 500 grams of coffee a week average, thats 140 weeks supply of only 1 single origin. Id get a bit bored...
and if you get a few mates to each buy a bag so you can all share round, then collectively yer actually stuck with enough coffee for many many years supply between you.......trouble is for all thise years bar one, you wont be drinking "current crop", and your stuck with the same stuff seemingly forever. False economy.
I think maybe the suggestion was for the CS site owner to look into it for divying up in the bean bay, not for single users to get into it.

Re: Re: coffee roaster fs in Melb
I thought the same thing when I saw the possible bargains to be had but realised I dont have the expertise to judge the standard of what was available.
But if Andy was able to check the standard and pick up a bargain to be passed on then that would be a different matter.
Otherwise someone could take their own personal gamble.
70kg of green beans probably wouldnt be much to some of the snobs here. ;D

Yes MM- It possibly may have been better to contact Andy directly on that one. You may like to email him??
NB that anything which finds its way to beanbay has been roasted and cupped to within an inch of its life to ensure that it meets the standards we members have come to expect!

Re: coffee roaster fs in Melb
I dont think that suggesting that these green beans "may even be a good idea for BeanBay" is attempting to set up a mini co-op. My original idea was that it would be a potentially good idea for the members of this forum. Anyway, my original context is gone and I have now been told.

Re: coffee roaster fs in Melb
ERM...last time I looked, this was a forum which has a number of sponsors and a site owner for that matter who sell green beans. These people pay the bills to allow you to access the products, member supplied information and support as well as the services offered to members here at great prices
There is no issue with doing your own thing and even communicating things via PM, but to attempt to set-up a mini co-op here- be it a share or business proposition is a tad rude- and thats just me being diplomatic... :-?

Re: Re: coffee roaster fs in Melb
But there WAS a link when I first looked at it. No idea who first posted the link, but it did take you to a site with various coffee related wares for sale.
I thought it the whole thing would be pulled pretty quickly when I saw it.

Re: coffee roaster fs in Melb
So the idea of a few CSers combining to buy green beans for themselves is not OK?
Just for anyone else looking, I didnt post a link, as I am aware of the rules. I thought an oppotunity associated with a link posted by someone else may be of value.

Re: coffee roaster fs in Melb
MM- its simply a matter of keeping the rules in mind when you post.... Have a look at http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1115338528 which states amongst other things:
We have some great official sponsors listed on the forum front page and these guys have a right to be protected in the forum.
Links to ebay ads or other similar off-site promotion to any sales related material are not welcome here.
Seems pretty clear and simple...No??... :-?

Check http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1115338528
"Links to ebay ads or other similar off-site promotion to any sales related material are not welcome here. "
While I see the benefit in raising some things not available through site sponsors to fellow CSers attention, I still reckon this contravenes that policy. But Im sure a mod will jump on it soon enough if they agree.
