I was one of the few early adopters of the Breville BES900 Dual Boiler before it hit the shelves. After 6 months of use as a home machine, I have decided to part with it and move up to the Vivi.
It was purchased from Dennis at cuppacoffee last year.
I made a minor adjustment to the OPV as the initial factory setting was extracting coffee at around 13 bar. It is now sitting at about 9.5-10 bar on average.
The machine has been faithfully brewing about 2 cups of espresso every workday. I normally have my coffee outside on weekends.
For the newbies, this is an excellent machine and often very forgiving during extraction. I love the automatic volumetric extraction, but I found myself using the Manual Mode more often than not as I am a ristretto drinker.
The PID temperature setting is great if you want to tweak your espresso for various roasts. I found this rather useful especially when I have some under-roast batches, where I will increase the temperature to about 95 degrees Celcius to make the coffee palatable.
The design of the BES900 has been thought through. I enjoy the convenience of filling up the reservoir without having to turn the machine back. I could just easily pop the top panel open and fill up the water from there. The self-on timer is esprecially useful as I like to preheat my machine about 30 minutes before extracting my first shot in the morning.
The machine is well maintained - it has been backflushed (using the rubber piece that came with the machine) every 2.5 months, and will only accept boiled Brita-filtered water. No straight-from-the-tap water. The water filter at the bottom of the water reservoir has also been changed the same time as the backflushing process. The milk steamer wand is also sanitised with a milk wand cleaner. The machine is free of scratches and looks great in the kitchen, along with your other evedyday Breville equipments on your benchtop.
There are still some water filters remaining, and the two cleaning tablets, which you will need to use every 3 months or so or whenever the "Clean Me" indicator comes on.
Tamper is still in the original plastic bag.
It was purchased for $1440 on mid-August. The asking price is $1000 (excluding shipping/packaging cost). I will be using e-go.com.au for my freight services as I found them reliable after my previous experience with them when I sold my old Silvia and Rocky. Please PM me your suburb name and postcode.
I am also okay with pick up - from Lane Cove Sydney past 8pm on weekdays.
