It's lever activated, no electronic volumetric. I suspect (that is, I'm making an assumption) the OP equates double boiler with 'automatic', which, if I'm right, is fair enough - most of them do have buttons rather than the e61 lever style. Well, I'm assuming this because of the 'want to make it and go' comments. It's easier for an unskilled operator to make a coffee on the fly when using a machine that takes care of how long your shot pulls. Not saying it's better - but I totally understand why the OP is keen for a swap to a "double boiler" (read, one touch operation) machine in his circumstances.

That's how I make sense of the situation.

It'd be a hard sell to get a DB owner to move back to a single boiler, even if it is a Breville - usually people have double boilers cause they want their milk coffee. Irrespective of being happy to make up the cost difference, as far as general coffee making preferences are concerned, I think you're unlikely to find success.

Better off to talk to a few of your local site sponsors to see if they'll do a trade in for a Expobar Minore or something similar.

[Edit - oops.. Minore still e61. Try the Nuova Simonelli Musica on for size. It's a heat exchanger, so will do milk and shot at the same time, but has volumetric buttons]

Why a DB? Why not a HX? I don't think the E61 group head has anything to do with the problem...a HX or DB will improve dramatically the steam volume without the priming and waiting for steam temp that a single boiler requires.

Nah. Read the post. Nothing wrong with Diadema, or I would have said so...... and then suffered the consequences! :-)

I just wouldn't swap one of the others that I mentioned unless someone offered me a GS/3 or Speedster.

If anyone does the deal and gets to upgrade to the Perfetta... they win.

I'm with Mal on this one - it came across as you considered anything by Diadema to be rubbish (which we know is not true, including the Perfetta)

You obviously want to make this change, but to me your reasons do not add up !
..warm up time, cable routing, etc etc, are all easily solved issues

No. E61 units have way way more metal in the group head. Just not as practical.

the chord is not able to be left plugged in as it drapes across the induction top cooker to reach the power outlet.

Doesn't matter what machine you have... this doesn't seem acceptable

I guess I am showing my ignorance. I leave my EM6910 on 24/7. It goes to sleep, but stays warm.
I click on one button, put the empty P/F in the holder, and it is about 5 minutes to all the lights on and the p/f all hot and ready for action.

Does the OP unit not have this sleep function.

The warmup time for the Breville Dual Boiler is not half an hour. More like 7 minutes, thanks to an extra PID controlled heating element within the group head. I have mine set to turn on 15 minutes before I rise.

The breville dual boiler has a function to turn on at a certain time. So would be an easy option. But a sad down grade in looks and build quality.

Agree with both points.

Point1 can't be done, not without a lot of disruption

Point 2 yes it will, but as it's dual boiler we are looking at it will help with ease of use early morning.

My loss will be coffee house gain I think, butte girls will get more use so that's what way the vote will go
