Hi all,
After going back and forth for a bit, I've decided to keep the Versalab and put the Mahlkonig K30ES up for sale - a totally unexpected decision but I guess single dosing still fits my usage better.
What can I say, it's a seriously awesome grinder. Grinds lightning fast under 4s, quiet, minimal retention with full hopper on(~5g), clump-free, static-free and mess-free. A no-fuss top grinder all in all.
Since the plastic bits were lost in transit (tray and hopper lid), I'm topping with a better option. It'll come with a custom-made glass hopper (~500g capacity) that came with my Versalab. Since I don't use the hopper so it might as well go to someone who uses it. The custom glass+wood hopper looks just stunning in person.
I've also put together a tray, but honestly it's not needed in function. Literally zero mess when I dose 15-18g into VST 15g/18g. I don't even need the dosing funnel, the WDT stirring tool or the water spray bottle that I typically use for other grinders.
Obviously it still comes with the ugly large hopper (sans lid) but who needs it when you have a better option.
The burrs are still plenty sharp (and probably just breaking in). The non-resettable counter says less than 50kg beans been through (1842 for double and 1259 for single). It's likely an overestimate anyway as a lot of the counts was used just for purging (1s).
This is the latest version with the barista manual dosing mode, the new brass grind chamber and toothed silicone chute. The older K30 chamber just don't work as well (clump/static) and cost a bomb to upgrade (~$300-400 USD according to other forum).
Asking for $1000 reckon that's a reasonable price/bargain for a titan class grinder in excellent condition, if not like-new. Btw, Malhkonig K30s are the official grinders used in WBC tournament and I do understand why after using it...
