Just to clarify this grinder has a very fine, stepless, worm drive adjustment, with a digital display of the setting so you can revert between settings easily.

I think it is great though for people to show and tell and it can be helpful for grinding your, own beans using your own grinder. You will find in practice generally people aren't that interested in equipment in itself unless it is rare or unusual. I've also found the meets last an average of two hours or so and most of the time is just spent talking. I am interesting in Arts A8 but just as it is similar to the Mazzer Major with big flat burrs. There is no agenda though so the time quickly disappears.

Not a good idea although I suppose informally people might note some differences. It is hard work and takes hours just to test a pair of grinders and blind tasting is essential. Generally it is agreed the differences aren't great either.

I didnt buy it new but its in pretty good nick and has done bugger all work considering the lifespan and build of these beasts.

I havent really bothered with girind retention, I have used this to single dose, fill up double basket with beans, empty into hopper, grind into basket. If I was feeling particularly fussy I would just purge for a bit. You can also lift the flap of the front part and have easy access to the throat and sweep it out with a brush, in which case retention would be minimal, and I dont think it is anything too significant in any case.

The grinds are nice and fluffy without clumping and it has that nice unstressed hum/purr when grinding that the big grinders have.

I could bring it to the next catch up if you like so you can check it out or use it for bench press exercises.

    Cheers

LeroyC sold an A8 to my brother in Christchurch. The model he has does have the 83mm burrs, I think a 450W motor and it rotates at 600rpm. This is all good. Your competition is the Mazzer Major with a 600W motor I think and 83mm burrs and I think a much higher rotation speed.

This one is in obviously good condition and it looks like you bought new.

I am a fan of these grinders with big burrs. I would rather have one of these than some of the smaller ones and they hold their value too especially if they look good. The older ones can look like shit if they are not looked after like having been in a cafe for years.

How do you find grind retention on it? I sometimes toy with buying something like this.
