Thanks all. The Scace is sold to Robert (rtl) and was posted today. Not sure if he's willing to organize a tour for the thermofilter, but if you want to have a go/rent, you know who to ask (nicely).

If anything, the Scace is a good tool for refining your technique especially if you're using an E61 with heat exchanger. I tested a Rocket Evoluzione (aus spec) earlier with this Scace, it shows that the machine doesn't need a flush <45 min but did benefit from a cooling flush after 1 hour+ idle. It's almost impossible to know the temp difference without the readout from Scace.

Aren't you people curious about your brew temperature? I certainly was! Maybe this could even go around the forum like the pressure-gauge portafilter?

You could easily insert a tee and include a pressure gauge by the looks. You could have the dripper coming off the side and the gauge off the other. Or have the gauge off a tube. As long as the system is closed it will function as it does now in terms of temp measurement.

Or leave as is and use for temp measurement as intended if you aren’t the tinkering type!

One potential downside I see is it'd be more difficult to put the Scace through the naked portafilter as you need some clearance. As it is now, I can just pop it in into my naked portafilter and remove it afterwards. Another downside...maybe the overall height of the tool after modification can be an issue?

But I have only used it as intended and not really keen to be creative with such a precision & expensive tool! If anyone is curious enough to try with theirs I am all ears (or pick mine up!).

Why couldn’t you fit a gauge before the restrictor so you still get the right flow and able to measure both brew temp and pressure?

Cool gadget, would be very handy for tuning the brewing.

It may be possible with the right fitting (not entirely sure)...but that wouldn't allow the water to flow through which then defeats the thermoprobe... =/

For pressure measurement however, there's one pressure gauge portafilter from Pullman which does a better job and can be loaned on the forum for a small fee.

Hi all,

Want to pass on this Scace thermofilter to another snobs. It's similar to Scace II (which costs a bomb!) but without the pressure measurement component - only measures temperature.

Can be used for measuring/calibrating your brew temperature. Suits any E61 machine and any other machine that takes commercial 58mm basket. Not recommended for manual/spring lever machines though as the flow rate is very different (as I had found out)

To use it, you need to use a bottomless portafilter with at least 60mm diameter clearance and a meter (could get one from ebay relatively cheaply). I was using my own meter for roasting and thus the meter won't be included
