So many times you see cafes grinding more when they don’t need it or grinding too much based on timers triggered off the dispenser “thwacker”.

My follow up question is then whether the Omron timer can be set for two different times?

I imagine grind time is pretty darn quick too...

Good question Matt- I’m not sure if you can set two times in the Omron timer- I’ve only ever used it for doubles. Yes it is quick- haven’t counted the number of seconds but it is very fast, again similar to Robur.

I’m interesred to know how the grind and timer is activated on this model?

Is it via switch triggered off dose dispenser/lever (similar to other doser models) or via separate switch near power on/off... or both?

Hi Matt- there is no switch in the doser (unlike say the Compak K10). Rather there is a push button switch next to the power switch on the right hand side which when pushed will run the grinder for precisely the length of time set on the Omron Timer (which is extremely accurate and able to be adjusted in very fine increments for micro adjustments of the dose- I was surprised how effective this is).

There is also another push button switch on the left hand side of the grinder which will run the grinder for as long as it is pressed down- ideal for small purges of the grind chamber or occasional topping up of a dose. Again this type of push button switch is very tactile and effective.

I bought it from a cafe owner that had been bought out by a developer. He told me he had it for a couple of years and used it for single origin only. When I went to view it I also saw a Robur on his bench so it made sense. He said Single Origins were rarely ordered- around 1kg per week. I have had it for around one year and have used it at home only making 2 coffees every morning. Condition is excellent. Grind consistency is very good and the resulting shots are magnificent- on par with a Robur in my opinion.

Up for sale is my Anfim Super Caimano S450 Dosatore- Arguably best described as the grand poo-bah of titan flat burr coffee grinders.

It is the grinder that was used by Sasa Sestic when he won the 2015 World Barista Championship- see YouTube link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gk37eAxa3I

I personally prefer this dosatore model over the doserless model because of Anfim's infamous fluffy "snow cone" doser which is an absolute pleasure to use and distributes the grinds perfectly into the porta-filter.

The Omron timer is very accurate and essentially makes the grinder more easily and accurately adjustable than some stepless grinders such as Mazzers (IMHO after extensive use of both side by side).

The Anfim Super Caimano S450 Dosatore is a purpose built commercial grinder that was designed by Anfim in Milan, Italy in conjunction with Espresso Company Australia.

Titanium-nitride coated 75mm flat blades have an increased cutting surface and maintain their cutting sharpness. A powerful 1 H/P motor spins the blades at a low 450 RPM, paired with the dual (in/out) fans the S450 minimises both heat at peak periods and noise providing a better customer experience.
Using the digital Omron timer, incremental adjustments can be made to 100/second for precision grind/dose setting, resulting in consistent pour times and less grind adjustments.
