Hi all,
I thought this would be my last grinder, but I have been itching to try other grinders seeing so many new grinders are appearing on the market.
So the Monolith is up for sale.
I received it in August 2017. Made a small error when removing the inner burr and it was stuck on the shaft (because the tolerance was so fine). Still grinds perfectly at that point but it didn't feel right to not have it perfect. So I sent it to Denis and he replaced the entire lower grind chamber with a new one (with updated sweeper and new set of burrs etc) in June 2018. So technically the burrs are barely bedded in and only about 6 months old (<20 kg).
Features:
-68mm Conical Burrs - same grinding surface/size as a Mazzer Robur
-Precisely aligned with premium Made in USA SKF over-spec bearings
-Easy to clean without losing your grind setting
-Minimal retention
-Magnetically attached short exit chute
-Hand built and tested in USA
This version is running at 144 rpm compared to the later 120 rpm (to have a shorter motor I suppose) so it grinds slightly faster (at least appears so in the video I saw).
Comes with everything that was included with the purchase and extras:
-RDT bottle and WDT mixing tool
-Dosing funnel
-Coffee Levi distribution tool
-Both the bean funnel and wooden cap (it now an extra US$60 option now)
-10A power cord
-New set of burrs with associated 304 stainless screws. I bought these but never got to use them since I've got the new burrs.
-An extra magnetic chute... the original replacement I received has a small flat defect around the corner (see pic) but is almost unnoticeable in person. Now that I've got the perfect chute, I am still using the defective chute so it's practically new. It can be a spare if you somehow lose it I guess (possible especially if you use a shop vac)...
All the extras fit well in the accessories box so don't worry about having them scattered around.
Just gave it a clean and it does age well, which is to say it looks almost like new with no sign of wear. Oh, did I mention you can disassemble the grinder easily for cleaning and put it back to have exactly the same grind setting?
Works perfectly, just that I am a coffee toys junkie and can't afford to have too much toys invested at the same time...
Invested a little over ~$3400 at the time ($3000+ just for the purchase price+tax). Asking for $2400 for practically like new condition (I took the major depreciation loss for you already, unfortunate reality with any new 'toys'
). Pick up in Melbourne City.
Alternatively, would be interested in topping up for a single-dosing flat grinder depending on budget (Monolith Flat or EG1 etc, maybe it's a long shot).
