  • !!!SOURCED!!! - WTB Single Group project machine.

    I'm looking for a Single group machine to repair or restore ideally I'd love something like a Expobar Minore, Vibiemme or ECM Rocket something along those lines.

    I know it's a long shot I have no idea what's out there ideally like to spend under $500 I've no idea if that's realistic or not.

    I have been thinking/wondering how hard it would be to convert a 2 group to a single group. A fair amount of work I know...
    Including shortening the boiler and frame and remaking/refolding a few panels. But they are cheap...
    Maybe a bit more work than your thinking.

      Yes it is, I've done three machines in the last 12 months, a VBM, an Izzo and an ECM. I paid $500 or less for each of them; you'll have to budget more than that including the replacement parts, of course, but the only one that's nudging a $1k spend is the Izzo where I replaced the vibe pump with a rotary pump and DC variable speed drive.

      That being said, one of the most common reasons people let these go is that the electronic controller is dead or dying and if you have to pay for a new one it will make a significant hole in your budget. I get around this by using a controller I designed and built myself, much cheaper and more reliable than the originals.

          As a point of interest do you sell those unit's you make yourself?

          I've been on the lookout for one of these machines for a while now on Facebook Market Place, Gumtree, Ebay and it seems very hard to anything. I've been trying to work out where they go when they die.

            It's probably more work than I was thinking I looked at a used 2 group Rancilio a few weeks ago it was $100 condition unknown the reasons I passed on it were it's size and weight and the power required, I guess making the boiler smaller and using a less powerful element might resolve that? if I were going to go that way I'd make the external case's from Perspex polish everything inside and light it up with LED's

                There is that diadima 2grp on here for free. Would need a pump... But a vibe pump would do for a single group, unless you went for the DC pump and utilized the variable pressure shots it allows.
                A smaller boiler is a def requirement probably in a hx configuration..

                  Drive runs the rotary pump, DC allows for much easier speed control via pwm. All adds up to variable pressure to the puck.

                      No.

                      I used to be involved in audio design, I published a couple of DIY projects back then and swore I'd never repeat the experience. I do not have the patience required: the response to 95% of support queries is "RTFM" but if you say that you sound like a dick.

                          You might be able to: I don't have any experience programming microcontrollers, much as I wish I did. I have a current project in the winemaking field which uses a PLC and HMI and I'm having a lot of trouble getting them to talk to each other. I could probably do the project for half the price if I could program an Atmel or similar but I can't.

                          That being said, one of the reasons I said my design is more robust than the original is that I deliberately eliminated the microcontroller in favour of an all analogue circuit which is virtually immune to power supply ructions.

                              I guessed as much, couldn't think of anything else it would run. Flow control via speed control rather than bleeding pressure makes a lot of sense.
