Nice score Jackster, If I didn't have the cimbali junior I'm working on, I think I would have had a crack at this one also.

Looking forward to hearing how you go with it

Well spotted. I’m fortunate enough to be able to replace this one with the Decent, although still getting the hang of it as with so many options brings its own challenges.

As mentioned in the PM machine is all yours - good luck with it!

  • !!!SOLD!!! - Diadema Junior Extra - a Project machine for charity

Not sure if this goes in here or the "for sale forum". (Mods please move if deemed appropriate)

I have a misbehaving Diadema Junior Extra HX machine that would be a great project for someone. These things are still selling for ~A$3000 new and my one still works...sort of.

Basically I want to have someone repair it. To motivate someone to use it for more than scrap value, I'm looking for $300, which will go to the starlight foundation for sick children.

History of this machine is that I bought it in 2008 and its been used at home on filtered water throughout its life, regularly decalcified, etc. It worked fine for a long time with regular servicing by Dimattina here in Perth, but a few months ago the heating light kept fluctuating on/off as it would heat up from cold, taking about twice as long as usual to get to temperature. It went to Dimattina and they spent $600 of labour switching things around (pressure sensor, relays, etc), without being able to get it working again to their satisfaction, until they gave up.

The machine is standard, apart from having modified it with "Eric's" excellent e61 temperature gauge on the grouphead screw (I still have the original screw too). As of today, the machine still heats, just slowly, and temperature surfing the HX is rather hit and miss when making coffee. Hot water and steam work well, once the boiler gets up to temperature. Metal is all in good condition too.

So, fair warning: a professional coffee repair shop couldn't fix it. If you can get it working again then this potentially is a real bargain, whilst if you can't then the sick children still benefit from the starlight foundation.

I'm based in Perth so pickup is preferred, as it weighs 25kg and all the boxes were discarded years ago.
