  • !!SOLD!! p/p: Quaha Napoletana II or similar

    Hi guys,

    This is a heads-up on a machine Ill have for sale shortly. I havent received it as yet but Im just flagging its pending arrival for those who may be looking for such a machine for Christmas. All information below is therefore as accurate as I can make it, and any variations will be confirmed on its arrival.

    My first espresso machine was of this type, and I enjoyed its results for about four years. I would keep this myself except I already have too many brewing bits and pieces! The machine has had very little use so should be in as-new condition, or very close to it. My various tips and tricks for this machine can be found at www.coffeetamper.com.au/**/imat/

    Vital statistics:

    * 1200 Watt Copper Element in 300ml Brass Boiler
    * 57mm filter baskets
    * 3 -Way Solenoid Valve
    * Pump Pressure 12 -15 bar
    * Water tank capacity 2.5L
    * Enormous 1.3L drip tray (compared to 600mL on Silvia)
    * Dimensions 340 x 310 x 260 mm
    * Weight 10.0 kg
    * Body 100% polished Stainless Steel
    * Suitable for office or family use, with enough steam to froth milk for 4 cappuccinos at a time .

    It is very similar to the Silvia under the hood. In terms of performance compared to Silvia, I can do little better than to quote from Alan Frews website:
    "In terms of brewing ability both machines will produce an espresso that is better than 99% of commercial operators can manage, given good beans and a well trained owner, but the espressos from the Silvia are slightly sweeter and fuller bodied than those from the Mokita. Add milk and the difference is undetectable to my palate."

    The great thing about this machine is that it has an integrated Lux grinder, which means:

    * you dont have to buy a grinder separately - one purchase not two
    * it takes up less bench space than a discrete machine and grinder
    * it only uses one power point
    * its simpler to shift and set up if you ever need to take it away
    * all the above points give it a higher W/PAF (Wife/Partner Approval Factor)

    Machine should come with:
    * Portafilter
    * Single and double filter baskets
    * Froth enhancer and crema disk (dont use these, I never have!)

    I will perform an overhaul on the machine when it arrives which will replace any gaskets and seals which need it, a descale and backflush as well as replacing the factory portafilter spouts with a heavy duty set. So it will come ready to go the distance.

    The new cost for this machine is $759. Asking price is $495 plus postat this point is $495 plus post but Ill review it once it comes in and Ive got a better idea of its condition and adjust this figure if its condition warrants it. After this you can add any configuration of tampers and diffuser discs you wish to option on at very competitive rates.

    PM or e-mail me for any enquiries. Definitely a Christmas bargain!

    Greg

    Note: photo below is of my old machine to give an idea of what were talking about, its NOT a photo of the unit for sale. Once it arrives I will post a photo of the actual machine.

    FS: Imat Napoletana I

    The Eagle has landed! Theres good news and bad news.

    The good news is that it has absolutely hardly been used. Id believe the 6 times I was told. It has all the smackings of a brand new machine to me:
    * there were no coffee oil deposits under the showerscreen and I doubt it had ever been removed
    * the group under the showerscreen had no sign of tarnishing or heat discolouration which happens with use (see bottom photo of this one compared to the photo of the group on my old well used Napoletana AFTER it had been backflushed and scrubbed!)
    * there are no scratches on the drip tray cover from cups, which normally happens fairly early on
    * the group gasket was still nice and soft and made a good seal
    * the steam wand doesnt drip, which on my machine happened started within a couple of months of use
    * all the switch markings on the front cover are complete, and they eventually start coming off during cleaning

    In every sense it reminded me of my Napoletana when I first fired it up five years ago, and brought out a very acceptable shot first time.

    But the every sparkling silver lining there is a cloud, and in this case:
    1) its a 1999 build machine, which means its a Series 1, not the Series 2 which has the 3-way valve. The 3 way valve releases portafilter pressure after the shot meaning you can remove it immediately. Without the valve you have to wait for the pressure to subside before removing the portafilter or do it slowly. Given the choice, I certainly prefer the 3-way valve machines, though those without it dont have to be backflushed, and if you leave the puck in place the pressure has normally subsided by the time youve finished the milk. Fortunately, a 3-way valve has no effect on the espresso quality in any way, only on how easily you can pull back to back shots. The fact its in this condition and is 8 years old is remarkable in the extreme!
    2) Someone has helpfully drilled a 10mm hole in the middle of the cup warmer! > I expect this is because the lady who had it and didnt know how to use it (which I believe now!) forgot to refill the boiler after doing the milk, and someone put the hole in the top to make it easier to reset the thermostat in future. :

    Im presently looking into ways to address these problems or sell it as is; I expect Ill be able to replace part of the top plate without too much hassle, but the 3 way valve upgrade would cost close to $500 so that wont be happening.

    This is an excellent as-new starter machine for someone who doesnt want to spend too much and wants a machine and a burr grinder at the same time for not much more than the cost of the grinder on its own. Taking into consideration its better than expected condition, the lack of a 3-way valve and the ventilated cup warmer, I am adjusting the price to $395 as is, or $450 with the top plate replaced, All prices plus freight and subject to a bit of reasonable negotiation if necessary. Because its so new it doesnt need new gaskets, seals or spouts. As originally listed Im happy to include a tamper at competitive rates, and it also came with a incasa-style 600ml milk jug which is the exact style Ive JUST bought : and is excellent for latte art, which Im happy to throw in for $10 if you dont already have one.

    So there you have it!
